Thesearenotflawsnordefectsandwillnotimpairthefunctionanddurabilityofthematerial.Theoverallappearanceoftheslabispolished.Theextremehardness,whichapproachesthatofdiamonds,makesgraniteuncommonlydurableandextremelyappealingforuseeverydayinthehome.Thesampleusedtomakeyourcolorselectionisonlyarepresentationofthetoneandpatternbut,becauseeachslabisdifferent,variationpatternshouldbeexpectedintheslabsusedtoproduceyourcountertops.Itisrecommendedthatyoutakethetimetophysicallyviewthecolorandcharacteristicsofthestonethatwillbetransformedintoyourcountertop.Unsealed,granitecanabsorbstainssuchasoil,whichcancausedarkspotsordiscolorations.Asastandard,wewillapplyasealerthatwillprotectyourcountertopforupto2-3years,thenitisuptoyoutore-sealevery2-3years.

QuartzQuartzsurfacingiscomposedofnaturalmaterials,89–93%ofwhicharethefinestquartzandgraniteaggregates.Thisnaturalstoneproducthastakenthebestofwhatnaturehastoofferintermsofthedurabilityandthebeautyofstone.Throughextensiveengineering,amanufacturingprocesswasdevelopedutilizingintenseheatandpressuretoincreasethecolorconsistency,stainresistance,andoverallstrengthofthisnaturalstoneproduct.Quartzisnon-porous,andassuch,itwillnotrequiretheuseofsealantsanditwithstandsnormalwearandtearbeautifully.Professionallydevelopedcolorsarecomputer-calibratedtomaintainconsistencyallowingdesignersandcustomerstomakeacloseselectionfromsamples,althoughitisstillintendedonlyasarepresentationofthecolor.Theslabusedforyourcountertopwillnotbeidenticaltothesampleusedtomakeyourselection,astheremaybesomevariationinparticulate,colorandshading,especiallyinthedesignsthatlooklikegraniteormarble.Youmayalsofindconcentrationofcrystal,spot,pooling,smallpitsorveiningnotpresentinthesample.Thesearenotconsidereddefectsorflawsandwillnotinterferewiththeperformanceoftheproduct.

MaterialViewing,ApprovalandLayoutPerformanceStoneworksoffersourcustomerstheoptiontopickouttheslab(s)attheslabdistributer.Duringthecuttingprocess,PerformanceStoneworkswillconsidertheveindirectionandwillattempttoproducethefinishedproductwithveinpatternsrunninginonedirection,whenpossible.

Hewillrecommendthekindofsupportneededandverifythatyourcabinetsarestructurallystrong.

CabinetsCabinetsmustbeplumb,levelandpermanentlysecuredtothewallorfloor.Cabinetsshouldbeaslevelaspossiblebecausethecountertopmustlieflatwithin1/8inchtoeliminatestressonthecorners,cut-outs,andseams.Keepinmindthatyourcountertopswillbeaslevelasyourcabinetryis.Itisrecommendedthatyoucheckyourcabinetsforlevelbeforethemeasure.Ifyourcabinetsareslightlyoutoflevel,wemayrequireplacingshimsbetweenthecabinetandthecountertoptobringuptolevel;however,inotherinstances,wemayhavetoinstallthecountertopflataccordingtothetrajectoryofyourhomeandtile.Wewillnotbeabletoinstallonexcessivelyunleveledcabinetry.Gapsandshimsmaybevisible,soyoumaywanttoconsiderhavingthemcoveredwithdecorativetrimbyyourcarpenterorcontractor.Newuppercabinetsthatwillrestontopofthecountertopmustbeinstalledaftertheinstallationofthecountertops.Ifyouhaveexistinguppercabinets,youmayneedtohaveyourcarpenterliftthemtoallowforcountertopinstall.Cabinetsonbothsidesofthestovemustbeinstalledsothattheyareonthesame‘plane’–frontandback;front-topandbottom,especiallyiftherewillbeaslide-instove.Cabinetrefacingneedstobedonebeforethecountertopsaremeasured.Newflooringshouldbedonebeforethecountertopmeasureifthecabinetswillbemovedandresetinplace.Newflooringinstalledwithoutdisturbingexistingcabinetsisok,butkeepinmindthatthedishwasherandstoveheighthastoremainbelowcountertoplevel.

BacksplashesToensureproperfit,somebacksplashesmayhavetobemeasuredafterthecountertopisinstalled.Ifthejobincludesfull-heightsplash,uppercabinets,hoodsandrangemicrowavesmustbeinstalledatthetimeofmeasure.Ifthewallsarebowedoruneven,therewillbegapsbehindthebacksplashbecausethestonewillnotbend.Sometimesourcrewwillbeabletocaulkbetweenthetopofthesplashandthewall,butthereareoccasionsthatthiswillneedtobedonebywhoeverisfinishingorpaintingthewallsurface.Ifthereisexistingwalltile,itmaynotbepossibletofollowtheexactlineofthetilewheninstallinganewbacksplashunderthetile.Ourinstallerswillnotgroutorcaulkthegapbetweenthetileandbacksplash.Thisistobecompletedbyatileinstallerorthecustomer.Sometimes,thesplashmayneedtobeinstalledslightlyoverthetile.Ourinstallerswillnotremovetiletoinstallthebacksplash.Electricaloutletsmustbepreppedandreadyforcountertopmeasureandshouldnotbemoved.Ourinstallationcrewwillnotplacetheboxesandwiringintheoutletsnorwilltheplatesbeinstalled.

SeamsMoststonecountertopswillhaveseamsandtheyshouldbeseenasintegralpartofyourproject.Ourinstallerswillattempttomaketheseamastightaspossible,butallseamsarevisibletothenakedeyeandcanbefelt.Seamwidthwillvaryfromstonetostone.Theacceptableindustrystandardforseamsisupto1/8”wideand1/32”riseforevery12”ofseam.TheMeasureTechwillrecommendseamlocationandwillreviewwithyouatmeasure,butwereservetherighttochangeplacementatfabrication,ifnecessary.Duringfabrication,greatcareistakentolayouttheslabtominimizewaste,blendthecolorandpattern,andplacetheseamsinthebestlocationforstructuralintegrity,installationsafetyhandlingandvisualaesthetics.Thenaturalvariationsofgranitemakeitimpossibletoguaranteeamatchorblendinpatternorcolorfromonepieceofcountertothenext.Seamlocationfactorsincludejoblayout,slabsize,crewsafety,andjobsiteaccessibility.Stonewithadefinedveiningdirectionmayrequireadditionalseamstoensureveindirectionforallpiecesisconsistent.Ourgoalistopleaseyouandfulfillyourspecificrequeststothebestofourabilitieswiththelimitationsathand.

FinalSelectionsAlldecisionsregardingedgeprofile,thickness,colorandcountertopdesignmustbemadepriortothedateofmeasure.ThePerformanceStoneworksmeasuringteamcannotmakedesigndecisions.Itissuggestedtohaveamock-uponsiteofuniqueislandlayoutstofacilitatethemeasuringprocess.Cardboardorplywoodissuggested.

IncidentalDamageFinalwallpaintingorotherpreparationshouldnotbecompletedpriortoinstallation,ifatallpossible.Carewillbeexercisedduringthecountertopinstallation,however,scrapes,punctures,ordigstowallsurfacesorcabinetryarepossibleandsometimesunavoidableintheworkareaandoccurfromtimetotime.Theseitemsareconsideredincidentaldamageandarethecustomer’sresponsibilitytorepair.Beassured,ourinstallerswillalwaysexerciseconsiderableefforttopreventincidentalandminimizeincidentaldamageatalltimes.

PreparingfortheInstallationThehomeownerordesignateddecision-maker(overtheageof18)shouldbeavailableduringtheentiredurationoftheinstallationandmustbepresentattheendoftheinstallationtoinspectthecountertop.

Sinks,FaucetsandAppliancesOurcrewwillinstalltheundermountsinkusingthemostappropriatemethodthatworksforyourproject.Theywillalsoinstalladishwasherbarorothermethodaccordingtowhatworksforyourproject.Ourinstallerswillneedtotestfiteveryitemthatgoesonthecountertop,includingtheplumbingforavesselsink.Youneedtohaveallofthesinks,faucetsandappliancesthatgoonthecountertopandtheplumbingpipesforvesselssinksonsiteandavailableatthe

timeofinstallation.Ifweneedtoreturntoadjustanycutoutforitemsnotavailableattimeofinstall,wewillopenaservicecallrequestandfeeswilloccur.

InstallationSign-offAfterthecountertophasbeeninstalled,thecustomermustbepresenttoinspectthecountertop.Aninstallationcustomerapprovalformwillbeprovided,whichweaskyoutosign,confirmingyoursatisfactionwiththequality,fit,anddamage-freeconditionofyournewcountertop.Ifyouarenotcompletelysatisfiedwiththeinstallationofyourcountertop,pleasecontactPerformanceStoneworksimmediately,preferablybeforetheinstallerleavesthelocation.

CleanUpInstallationofacountertopisaconstructionprocessandresidualdustistobeexpected.Thecustomermaywanttodrapeorcoverareastohelpcontainthedusttotheconstructionarea.Thejobsitewillbeleftinbroom-cleancondition.

SafetyForsafetyreasons,childrenandpetsmustbekeptoutofworkarea,orleavetheresidenceforthedurationoftheinstall.Heavyitems,odors,dustandfumesarepartoftheinstallationprocess.Forsafetyreasons,ourinstallerscannotremovetheirsteel-toedshoesorwearfabricbooties.

DelaysDuringtransportation,atopcanbreaksometimes.Ifthisweretooccur,PerformanceStoneworkswillremakethetopandprioritizetheinstallationofthenewtopwithinafewdays.Delaysmayoccurinordertohaveadditionalstonesuppliedtoremakethepieces.Customersplanningpartiesoreventsintheirhomeshouldbecautionedtoprovideseveralweeksofcushionbeforehostinganeventintheirhomeasdelaysonmajorconstructionprojectsarecommonandoccurforunforeseenreasons.Nocompensationorreimbursementwillbeprovidedfordelaysoccurringduetoabrokentoporsplash.

WeatherConditionsWeappreciateyourunderstandingifweneedtocancelyourinstallationduetoweatherconditionsthatputthesafetyofourinstallersontheroadorwhencarryingtheheavystonesatrisk.Extremeweather,fog,snowstormsandblizzardsandfreezingtemperaturesaresometimesfactorsthatdeterminea“SnowDay.”Wewilladviseyouwithasmuchanticipationaspossible,butsometimeswecancelatthelastminute,hopingthatwedon’thavetorescheduleyourproject.Wewillnotprovideanycompensationforcancellationduetoweather.

CancellationandReturnsYourcountertopsarecustommadeandarenotreturnableandthepurchasepricecannotberefunded.Cancellationsarenotacceptedafteryourapprovalhasbeenreceivedaftermeasure.Fullpaymentlesstheinstallationcostwillberequired.

Cleanstonesurfaceswithafewdropsofneutralcleaner,stonesoaporamildliquiddishwashingdetergentandwarmwater.Useacleanragforbestresults.Toomuchcleanerorsoapwillleaveafilmandcausestreaks.Donotuseproductsthatcontainlemon,vinegarorotheracidsonthegraniteasthehighacidcontentmayetchthesurface.Rinsethesurfacethoroughlyafterwashingwiththesoapsolutionanddrywithasoftcloth.Changetherinsewaterfrequently.Donotusescouringpowdersorcreams;theseproductcontainabrasivesthatmayscratchthesurface.Inbathandotherwetareassoapscumcanbeminimizedbyusingasqueegeeaftereachuse.Toremovesoapscum,useanon-acidicsoapscumremover.Frequentoroveruseofanammoniasolutionmayeventuallydullthesurfaceofthestone.

SchedulingTimesThemeasureandinstallationappointmentswillbescheduledduringnormalbusinesshours,MondaythroughFridayfrom8a.m.–5p.m.Pleaseallow3hourtimewindowforarrival.Thedurationofthemeasurewillvarydependingonthecomplexityofyourproject.Theappointmentmaytakefromtwotofivehoursormore.Theaverageinstallationtakesabout4hours,butmaytaketheentireday.Pleaseallowenoughtimeforyourproject.

• YourProjectManagerwillcallyou,2–3daysafterreceiptofyoursignedapprovalanddeposit,toscheduleaninstallationdate

• Onedaypriortoinstall,prepareforinstallation,removecountertops,disconnectplumbing• Ourinstallationteamwillinstallyournewcountertopsandundermountsink• Attheendoftheinstallation,werequestyouarepresenttoinspectandapprove

PostInstallation

• Thesinkandgarbagedisposalcanbeconnectednosoonerthan24hoursafterthecountertopinstallation• After24hours,youcanwipe,cleananduseyournewcountertops(notbefore)
