Fresh from their appearance at theAcademy Awards, boxing greatsMicky Ward and Dicky Ecklund willheadline the Hometown Expo. Thepair will chat with fans and sign auto-graphs. The boxing brothers werewell known around their native Low-ell for years before the Oscar-win-ning film “The Fighter” told theworld their story. The film starredMark Wahlberg as Ward and Chris-tian Bale as Eck-lund—a role thatnetted Bale theOscar for BestSupporting Actor.Brought up in

the hardscrabbleneighborhoods in

Lowell, Ecklund and Ward reachedthe national stage as prizefighters.Ecklund, eight years Ward’s senior, fought “Sugar” Ray Leonard in1978, going the distance only to losein a decision. “The Pride of Lowell”eventually became New EnglandWelterweight Champion and retiredwith a 19-10 record.Ward rose to national fame for his

gritty, exciting matches—particular-

ly his trio of fights against ArturoGatti. Three of Ward’s fights wonRing Magazine’s Fight of the Year, which puts him in exclusive compa-ny with the likes of Rocky Marcianoand Muhammad Ali. “Irish” MickyWard’s solid 38-13 career recordbelies his place as a boxing legendrespected for his otherworldly tough-ness that helped bring his story to thesilver screen.

“THE FIGHTER”

Another Boston legend from yearspast will join Malzone in welcomingfans to the Expo. Terry O’Reilly, for-mer Bruins defenseman and headcoach, hasn’t strayed too far from thecity where he played his entire NHLcareer. During the Bruins’ third gameagainst the Philadelphia Flyers—thefirst Boston home game of the East-ern Conference semi-finals—O’Reilly was chosen by the team asan honorary captain. “It was a nice way to start off a

home game,” O’Reilly said. “Espe-cially one where we trouncedPhiladelphia.”O’Reilly, remembered by legions

of New Englanders as a pugnaciousbrawler, looks forward to chatting

about the team with his fans. TheOntario native has lived aroundBoston since he was 19 years old.Now 59, the hockey legend hasn’tlost his passion for the B’s. Like mostBruins fans, the team’s push throughthe playoffs has been especially sur-prising given their difficult start.“It’s like night and day,” O’Reilly

said about the Bruins’ turnaroundsince the start of the playoffs. “Thewhole team seems to be contribut-ing.”As a player O’Reilly famously pro-

tected Bruins greats like Orr andBourque. His 2,000-plus penaltiesminutes put him among the all-timeleaders, a testament to the fact that hewould never back down from a fight.

Needham BankNeedham Bank will once again bea sponsor at the second annualHometown Expo. Needham BankMarketing Officer, Iris Tomlakspoke about the banks involvement

and why they felt it was a goodchoice to take part in the expo againthis year. “We thought it would be agreat opportunity to give back to theresidents of the communities weserve, since the Hometown Expoprovides excellent home improve-ment, real estate and home décorresources for those looking to buy ahome, make repairs, build additionsor beautify their houses,” Tomlaksaid on the banks continued partici-pation.“It was an easy decision to againbe a Platinum Sponsor for theHometown Expo – Needham Bankserves the communities of Need-ham, Dedham, Medfield, West-wood and Wellesley,” Tomlak saidon the Banks coverage. “While ourpresence within those towns ishighly acknowledged and we arerecognized as a bank that genuinelycares about the people it serves, there is no more concrete way todemonstrate that heartfelt positionthan by contributing to an event thatmeans so much to so many people.”During the Expo, Needham Bankwill have a booth set up to helpthose in attendance learn moreabout banking, loans and any otherquestions they may have. “We willhave Residential Loan officers onhand, in addition to BusinessDevelopment Representatives,Customer Service Representativesand Tellers to offer guidance on anyand all banking needs from buyinga home to saving money,” saidTomlak. “We are also looking for-ward to sharing details on our newfree personal and business checkingproduct lines and enhanced onlinebanking services.”

As a sponsor during the first everExpo last year, Tomlak recalled theambiance the event had saying,“Hometown Expo 2010 offered awonderful atmosphere for people ofall ages – not only did adults havethe chance to meet with representa-tives from many of the area’s busi-nesses, there were activities forchildren in addition to live enter-tainment and plenty of refresh-ments.” “The Expo gave NeedhamBank the opportunity to let peopleknow about our products and onlineservices and to convey our commit-ment to community banking and toour valued present and future cus-tomers,” added Tomlak. Stop by the Needham Bank boothduring the Hometown Expo to haveall your banking questionsanswered by their helpful staff.

AJT SuppliesA new Platinum sponsor on boardis AJT Supplies, owner AlbertTodesca III decided his companywould benefit from sponsoring thisyears Expo for a number of reasons.“We started thinking about becom-ing a sponsor because it was somuch of a success last year, wewanted to be part of it this year,”Todesca said.Todesca has hopes that this oppor-tunity will bring new customers aswell as help build a name for his

company through his staff of excel-lent craftsmen with location inFoxboro on Neponset Ave and inWest Roxbury. “We’re hoping toget new customers, a lot of peopledon’t know we exist so the Exposeems like a great opportunity to getmore exposure.”Along with showing off their tal-ent Todesca and Co. will also bebringing local boxing star PeterMcNeely to sign autographs. “He’sdone some stuff with me in the past,he has come to other trade shows,so it will be nice to have him tocome with me to this event as well.”Known for landscape design andmasonry work, Todesca also spokeabout the booth his company willbe setting up. “We will have a boothwith employees talking about prod-ucts we sell and we are going tohave a big outdoor living displaywith a grill and all the essentials,”Todesca said. “We specialize inmasonry and landscape supplies sowe want to show people what weare all about.”

PrimaveraWith a menu set for spring, com-plete with Italian braided rollsstuffed with North End sausage, peppers, and onions, grilled chickensandwiches wrapped in a bed ofmixed greens, and kids’ favorites –hot dogs and hamburgers fromWildfire Barbecue - Millis’ Primav-era Italian restaurant will be keep-

ing visitors’ full and content at the2nd annual Hometown Expo. “We love the Hometown Week-ly,” Jerry Gaita said, the owner ofPrimavera since 1989. “[Last year,]Mike had asked me if I wanted toparticipate and it sounded like agreat thing to be a part of.
