favorite piece of jewelry.
Some people love a modern item that shows a
daring sense of fashion. Others are attached to an

time they look at the one-of-a-kind piece their
spouse presented to them on a special occasion.

award-winning pieces as a bench jeweler. That
expertise combines with the staffs attentive ser-

Lindwedels cases sparkle with top-quality
stones, gleaming gold and silver, and high-fash-
ion items. But if a customer is looking for some-
thing truly unique, the Lindwedel team is always
excited to design something just for them.Jewelry buyers today are very savvy and
know exactly what they want. We are committed
to helping them select something that will last a
lifetime, said Phil.
The Lindwedels service extends beyond their
own inventory to repairing, polishing, reworking,
or appraising pieces that a customer may already
have. They also offer top dollar for gold jewelry
that a customer has decided to part with.

Seniors Home Care: Specializing InSenior Adult In-Home Care Since 1987
I started Seniors Home Care to provide asupport system for older adults, said KitWhittington, R.N., founder of Seniors HomeCare. SHC allows individuals who want thebenefits of assisted living, but do not want tomove out of their home, stay in the comfort oftheir own homes and maintain theirindependence.
The range of services is reassuring to client
families who find it difficult to raise their ownfamilies while trying to be supportive caregiversto their elderly parents. Those services havebeen designed around the true needs of theolder population, with companionship, medication reminders, transportation, shopping, light housekeeping, cooking, and personal careamong the many services offered.
How are a clients needs determined? One ofSHCs registered nurses meets with each clientpersonally conducting a detailedcomplimentary assessment.Their intimately itemizedchecklist is the basis for theiroverall impression of the clientsneeds. The sum of data and, professional intuition, provides
the blueprint for meeting the clients needs. Those needs are met by carefully screened,
bonded, and insured Seniors Home Careemployees, not contract hires. Each caregiverundergoes drug testing, a thorough backgroundsearch and completes a training programdesigned by Whittington and administered byprofessional instructors. It includes some basicnursing skills and physical therapy
applications.SHC offers its clients flexibility, with care

Best Home Furnishings Fills VoidWith First Factory Direct Store
Best Home Furnishings chose St. Louisto open its first factory direct furniture storein 2007.
When family-owned furniture stores, like Rest Assured Furniture, Debasio,Phillips, went out of business, we felt itnecessary to fill the void with our first fac-tory direct store, said owner Carl Boyer. We believe people are still interested inhigh-quality furniture at a low price.
Best Home Furnishings is the largestchair manufacturer in the world, producing7,000 chairs every day. The furniture ismanufactured 200 miles from St. Louis inFerdinand, Ind.
Where else can one see over 200 chairsin one place, with over 700 fabric andleather options allavailable usually withinthree weeks? Boyer saidof his store.
But, we are morethan chairs. Best Home
Furnishings features stationary sofas, sec-tionals, reclining sofas, glider rockers, accentchairs, sleepers, desk chairs and accesso-
ries, Boyer said. He said his store stocksover 586 pieces for immediate pickup.
Most of the staff were previouslyemployed by Boyer with past experienceaveraging 12 years. Staff includes ManagerDanielle Boyer, Mary DeMello. ChrisBohn, and Rebecca Steinberg (maternityleave).
To determine quality of furniture, Boyersaid to lift the cushions. If theyre heavy, thefoam density is good.
Make sure the cushions are Dacronwrapped. But most importantly, turn it over.If theres particle board on the frame, run!
Run to Best HomeFurnishings where solidwood is the norm, Boyersaid.
Our repeat businesssays it all, he added.

Over the years, weve had the opportunity to
see families grow, said Paul. Now we clean
windows and gutters for our clients sons and

customers dont have to worry about having
several different people in and out of their
home, he added. Most of our clients dont even
have to be home for us to do our job.M&P Window Washing is a 2007, 2008 and

J.E. Redington Plumbing CompanyPrides Itself On Quality, History
Generations of satisfied customers cantell you: a plumbing company doesnt stayin business for 81 years unless its doingquality work.
J.E. Redington Plumbing Company wasfounded in 1929 when Kirkwood was still
developing as a suburb, but the originalowners grandsons say that the needs of itscitizens have remained the same.
There have been changes in trends andcity codes and that keeps us busy. But ourquality standard has always been to only dowork and use products that we would wantin our own homes, said Jeffrey Redington, who co-owns the business with partnerRichard Redington.
Using a local contractor doesnt justmake buyers feel good about supportingtheir community; it can impact the price oftheir service as well.
We are very focused on keeping upwith the local codes. I was recently able tosave a custom-er money on areplacementwater heater
because of our specialized knowledge. Aprevious bid that she received includedcode corrections she didnt need, Jeffreysaid.
The experienced staff at J.E. Redingtonis an important part of their success. Team
members range from 10 to 30 years on thejob with the company, and letters from sat-isfied clients confirm their exceptionalwork:
We were very nervous when we weretold we had busted pipes and werent surewho to hire to do the job. We are very happywe chose your family. What a relief toknow the job was put in professionalhands! said Tina S. of Sunset Hills.
Jeffrey said this kind of response is whatmakes him grateful to carry on the legacy ofthe family business.
My favorite part of the job is hearingthe wonderful stories that customers sharewith me about the services performed by
my father,Jack, or mygrandfather,J.E., he said.

Two Democrats and one Republican are vying forthe St. Louis County Council 5th District seat be-
ing vacated by Barbara Fraser, D-University City.
Fraser is running for the state senate 24th District
seat.
On the Aug. 3 primary ballot are Democrats Pat
Dolan and Terri Williams, and Republican Randy
Jotte.
The 5th District takes in all, or parts of, Affton,
Brentwood, Clayton, Crestwood, Glendale, Grant-
wood Village, Kirkwood, Ladue, Mackenzie, Maple-
wood, Marlborough, Oakland, Olivette, Richmond
Heights, Rock Hill, Shrewsbury, University City,
Warson Woods and Webster Groves.
Democratic Primary
Pat Dolan, 1259 Boland Place in Richmond
Heights, is a former Richmond Heights city council-man (1992-2000). He works as a
superintendent with United Fire
Protection of St. Louis, and is
president of Sprinkler Fitters Lo-
cal 268. Dolan is currently the sec-
retary/treasurer of the St. Louis
Labor Club. He is 55 years old.
Dolan is a lifelong resident of
St. Louis County and a 1973 grad-
uate of Christian Brothers College
High School (CBC). He and his
wife, Jean, have two sons, Patrick and Christopher.
Dolan said he would make job growth in the coun-
ty a top priority, and that he would work with cur-
rent council members to bring more businesses and
better jobs to the region.
We need to basically create some job growth,
maybe along the lines of green buildings, LEED
buildings even the current county buildings need
to be brought up to date, said Dolan. That wouldcreate all types of jobs and address environmental
sustainability issues. It would create work and im-
prove quality of life for the county.
He said he would also work for more transparency
in county government.
People trust government more when they have
full disclosure of where our tax money is being
spent, he said. Im basically in favor of a taxpayer
bill of rights and more accountability for county gov-
ernment.
Dolan said when he was a city council member in
Richmond Heights he was part of an effort to estab-
lish a 911 center shared by ve municipalities.
Keeping the lines of communication open through-
out the 5th District is a priority, he said.
Ive talked to almost every mayor and gone to al-
most every citys council meetings to explain to themthat Id have an open door policy, said Dolan. Id
like to hold town hall meetings with each municipal-
ity individually or together and maybe a quarter-
ly meeting with all the mayors of the 19 municipali-
ties, and go over whatever concerns they might have.
Having been on the municipal level, I understand
they deserve the time of their county councilperson
to respond to their needs.
Dolan said he has the ofcial support of many
St. Louis County ofcials, including current coun-
cil members Michael OMara, Hazel Erby, Kathleen
Burkett and Steven Stenger; St. Louis County Ex-
ecutive Charlie Dooley; and St. Louis County Pros-
ecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch.
He said he is acquainted with his opponent in the
primary, fellow Democrat Terri Williams, and that
both candidates are running similar grassroots cam-
paigns.
I respect Terri for running, he said. I appreciate
the fact that shes passionate enough to run, and my
hats off to anybody who goes through all this.

Thirty years ago this summer, lifechanged for Rick and Mary Jane Kuhn.Ricks mother, Mary Louise Kuhn, died aftera brief illness. One month later, Mary Janesdad, George Moxley, passed away.
It was a rough time. We also had a six-month-old baby girl, said Rick.
Rick had been remodeling and rehabbinghomes with his father, John. After his mothers
death, Pop decided to hang up his tool beltand send Rick out on his own. Rick became aone-man show and worked hard to grow hisbusiness. He incorporated just two years laterand, as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Its a history that runs deep: Rick is thefifth generation of his family to be in thebuilding business. He recently completedcourses from the Home Builders Associationand is now a Certified Aging in PlaceSpecialist (CAPS).
Mary Jane said she isproud of Rick and all that hehas accomplished.
Growing from a one-person shop to an award-winning contractor is a pret-ty great feat, she said.
She is also proud of how much he givesto the community.

The Kuhns have built their business bycreating strong relationships with their cli-ents, who become friends and repeat cus-
tomers along the way. This great reputationhas been important to growing the businessthrough word-of-mouth.
A great example of the kind of relation-ships we have with our customers is akitchen we just remodeled. We actuallyworked with the same client in the samekitchen twenty years ago, Rick said.
