TECHNOLOGIES

ALIEN PLANET

This is going to be a 3-4 week challenge. I’ll give you an Overview of the Challenge and then let you know the Section to focus on each week:

Overview of TaskDesign and create an alien from one the planets in our solar system and create an audio recording of the alien describing its planet.

CRITERIA:The alien should not be any larger than 20cm tallThe alien can be made of any materials available at home.

FAITH DEVELOPMENT

Liturgy

Lots of our Faith involves us in sharing our faith together as a community at home, in church

and at school. Motherwell Diocese have prepared a children’s liturgy for each week while it’s more difficult to celebrate faith together. Here is the link for this week.

Our Lady and The Rosary

This is the beginning of the Month of May. During this month, we focus on the life and

vocation of Our Lady and we try to pray to her.

MOVIE NIGHT

Watch a movie together at home. There are some great learning activities you can

do the next day, too…

Investigate your movie…

Each person has to create questions to find out about

after watching.

Where was the movie set or how was the set designed if it’s

an animated movie?

How was it created?

Who starred in the movie or did the voices?

Which country is the movie set in or based on?

Can you find out more about this country? You could

investigate its geography, customs or cultures.

Create a ‘Movie Map’ with stops for the most important

events, scenes and characters or your favourite ones.

your favourite part of a book you’ve been reading or a movie or programme

Influence the plot of the story

The alien must come from a planet in our solar system. The audio must include facts about the planet’s distance to the Earth and the Sun, how long it takes to orbit the Sun and its size. The audio must be no longer than three minutes.

This Week’s Task:Design your alien on paper, paying attention to the conditions you found out about on your chosen planet. Lots of factors will determine the qualities your alien needs to survive there, for example:

LandscapeAtmosphereWeather ClimateHours of light/darkness

Many people find that praying to Our Lady during difficult times helps to strenghthen their

Faith. Can you make a special copy of the ‘Hail Mary’ and try to use this prayer more often or try to pray a decade of the Rosary each day for the

month of May?

BE KIND

KINDESS CARDS

Showing Kindness can be really simple and can help to keep everyone happy at home. Try to show kindness in simple ways this week. Chat to your siblings and grown ups and agree on

some acts of kindness that you’ll try to achieve each day. Here are some ideas to get you

started:

I’ve attached a bigger copy of this below…

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical Fitness:Joe Wicks does an excellent

and free workout at 9am every weekday! Catch him by going to YouTube and

searching for “PE with Joe” or you could try ‘Jumpstart

Jonny’ for a fun and energized workout. He often

includes fun and game elements too. He’s live on youtube at 9 am each day.

Dance: Oti Mabuse does a great Dance Class at 11:30 each day live on youtube.

These classes are saved so that you can watch them at any time. They are for boys

and girls, are simple to follow and have fun themes

like ‘The Greatest Showman’. ‘Frozen’ and

‘The Jungle Book’

Skills Practice! Do you have a fitness goal that you’d like to achieve?

Maybe you could hold that plank for a little longer or increase your number of skips in a certain time?

In School we set Weekly Challenges. We have a big think and then we decide:What we’d like to achieve

How we’re going to achieve it

using the correct amounts helps your Mathematical

Thinking and you might get to eat something delicious too. That’s a win all round!

You can develop your creative Wrtitng skills by

recording your own recipe on paper using words and

images or in type or even by making a VLOG or voice recording of your recipe.

You could design your own cards and cut them up to shuffle and choose an act of

kindness each day.

What help we’ll need to get there.

Talk at home about a fitness or exercise goal you have

and make a note of it. Decide when, where and how often you’ll practise.

Remember! Set achievable goals to help you to achieve

success. When we set goals we are trying to make a positive

change and notice an improvement. The

improvement can be really small and that will still be

fantastic work!

ART Art meets Science in this activity (and

it’s also lots of fun!)

You’ll need some paper towel and some felt tipped pens.

1. Fold the paper towel in half

2. On the outside half (like the front of a card) write a word or draw an outline in black or a

dark colour

3. Open your paper towel and draw a picture on the inside half. Outline it in black and then

colour in.

PRACTICAL

Reflection Time Daily Reflection

Instead of focusing on what your haven’t achieved in a

day or on what ‘s gone wrong, let’s focus on what

went well… you’ll be able to find something!

Reflect at the end of your day with these simple

thinking prompts:What went well today?

How do I feel about this? What didn’t go so well?

TEACH YOUR PARENT

This week let’s say ‘Thank you’

At school lots of you make cards for teachers and friends and this is a lovely thing to do.

Your parents are doing such a great job looking after you at home and helping you with your learning and I know that you’re helping them too. Can you create a card or even just a little note to say ‘Thank you’ for doing a terrific job!

This will make them feel really special.

And remember not to worry about having a bad
