Places of Interest• Red Fort- One of Delhi's most famous historical monuments, Red fort or "Lal Qila" is made in red sandstone and is a

seemingly eternal witness to the Mughal splendor and extravagance. • Jama Masjid -Another architectural wonder of Mughal India, Jama Masjid or the Jami Masjid was built by the Mughal

Emperor, Shah Jahan, between 1644 and 1658. Originally called the Masjid-i-Jahanuma, or "mosque commanding view of the world", this wonderful structure and is made up of alternate vertical strips of red sandstone and white marble.

• Humayun's Tomb- An elegant red sandstone and white marble precursor to its more famous cousin Taj Mahal, Humayun's Tomb was built by his first wife Haji Begum after his death from a fall in the stairs. The inner sanctum contains the crypts of the emperor and his wife, and has some really amazing acoustics.

• Qutub Minar - A soaring tower of early Muslim vintage, Qutub Minar is a major landmark of Delhi. • Chandini Chowk – Colorful street stalls and shops.• Purana Quila -Built on the historic site of Indraprastha the capital of the Pandavas of the Mahabharata) Purana Quila or the

"Old Fort" was the combined efforts of the Mughal Emperor Humayn and Sher Shah, who, for a short period, almost extinguished the hopes of a permanent Mughal Empire.

• Rajghat -An open platform etched with Mahatma Gandhi's last words "Hey Ram" (Oh God) is set in a garden with fountains and a variety of exotic trees. This is the place where the mortal remains of the Mahatma were consigned to the flames.

• Rashtrapati Bhavan- Originally the Viceroy's House, Rashtrapati Bhavan serves now the official residence of the president of India. Built by built by Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker between 1921 and 1929, the building is the largest and most grandiose of the British constructions.

Humayun’s Tomb

A complex of buildings in Mughal architecture built as Mughal Emperor Humayun's tomb. (1268-1287). It encompasses the main tomb of the Emperor Humayun as well as numerous others. The complex is a World Heritage Site and the first example of this type of Mughal

architecture in India. The architecture of the mausoleum is similar to Taj Mahal.

Agra

Agra is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It finds mention in the epic Mahābhārata.

Legend ascribes the founding of the city to Rājā Badal Singh (around 1475), whose fort, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present

Fort. It achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal emperors from 1526 to 1658 and remains a major tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Tāj Mahal,

Agra Fort and Fatehpūr Sikrī, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

• Taj Mahal : Home to one of the seven wonders of the world-the Taj Mahal. • Agra Fort : Built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. the fort is a masterpiece of design

and construction. Within the fort are a number of exquisite building, including the Moti Masjid, Diwane-I-Aam, Diwani-I-Khas and musanman Burj, where the Emperor Shah Jahan died in imprisonment.

• Itmad - Ud Daula : To the north of the fort and across the river Yamuna are several fine examples of Mughal architecture. The Itmad -Ud -Daula as a by the Empress Noor Jehan as a memorial to her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg , is beautifully ornamented with pietra dura inlay and lattice work marble screens.

• Chini Ka Roza : The tomb of Afzal Khan, the persian poet and minister at Shah Jehan's court gets its name from the brightly coloured glazed tiles that decorate it . Lies just 1km beyond itmad -ud -daula.

• Sikandara : The last resting place of the Mughal Emperor Akbar- the greatest of the Mughal emperors and one of the most secular minded royalties of his time.

• Fatehpur Sikri - an epic in red sandstone. Fatehpur Sikri was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar during 1564 A.D.

Jaipur, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a

population of more than 5 million residents. His Highness Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur (born 1931) is the current titular Maharaja of Jaipur. Jaipur serves mainly as a stepping stone for travelers heading to the desert cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, it is not without its own

attractions, such as several massive Rajput forts. Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly colored buildings,

which were originally painted this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Mughal cities.

Places of interest• The City Palace - The palace houses a museum with a superb collection of costumes and armoury of

Rajputs & Mughals. The vast complex occupies one seventh of the walled city of Jaipur and is wonderful blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture.

• Hawa Mahal - This is the most famous building in Jaipur. It is build for the ladies of the harem by Sawai Pratap Singh. The monument was originally conceived with the aim of enabling ladies of the royal household to watch the everyday life and royal processions of the city.

• Jai Mahal - picturesque palace amidst the Man Sagar lake• Nahargarh Fort - Located 6km fm Jaipur, on the Aravali Hills. Nahargarh was built by Jai Singh II in

1734 to bolster the defense of Amer. There is a wonderful view of the Mansagar lake and the Jal Mahal Palace from the fort

• Amber Fort and Palace - one of the most magnificent destinations in Jaipur located on the hills just 11km out of Jaipur. It was built by Raja Man Singh in 1600 AD, continued by Raja Jai Singh and then completed to its present form by Sawai Jai Singh in the eighteenth century. The fort is an example of a fascinating blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture built in red sandstone and white marble.

• Statue Circle - carved statue of Sawai Jai Singh in white marble• Ram Niwas Garden - Albert Hall Museum, the state Zoo, Ravindra Manch Theatre and several cafes

and picnic spots in its premises• Jantar Mantar Observatory - Instruments for measuring the harmony of the heavens. It was built

between 1728 to 1734 by Jai Singh. Each instrument of this observatory is used for a particular function and gives an accurate reading.

Jodhpur, is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, it is the

capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the

stark landscape of the Thar desert.The city is known as the Sun City for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys

all year. It is also referred as the Blue City due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur lies

near the geographic centre of Rajasthan state, which makes it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists.

The old city of Jodhpur is surrounded by a thick stone wall.

Places of Interest• Mehrangarh Fort - The fort with walls up to 36m high and 21m wide houses some of the most intricately adorned

palaces with exquisitely carved panels, latticed windows and brilliant stained glass. Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are some of the important palaces and apartments. The fort museum, in a series of palaces has a collection of palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, miniatures, musical instruments, costumes and furniture. The canons, placed strategically on the ramparts are well preserved and impressive. We get an excellent view of the city from the ramparts of the Fort.

• Jaswant Thada - A collection of royal crematorium including that of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, in white marble, is situated near to Mehrangarh fort. Built in 1899, the cenotaph also houses the portraits of the rulers of Jodhpur. There is some beautiful marble lattice work.

• Umaid Bhavan Palace & Museum -The museum inside the palace displays weapons, antique-clocks, crockery and hunting trophies belonging to the Maharaja. It has a collection of miniature paintings, crafts and royal finery. The royal family still occupies part of it.

• Girdikot and Sardar Market - These colourful markets are located in the heart of Jodhpur. Narrow alleys lead to quaint little shops selling textiles, antiques, silverware and a wide range of handicrafts. Nearby is the clock tower which is a prominent landmark.

• Government Museum - Located in the Umaid Public gardens this museum has a collection of weapons, textiles, miniature portraits, local crafts and images of Jain Tirthankars. There is also a library and a zoo.

Jodhpur City

Umaid Bhawan Palace, JodhpurOne of the fascinating palaces of Jodhpur is the Umaid Bhavan palace. Maharaja Umaid Singh constructed it in 20th century. A part of the palace has now been converted into a hotel and a museum.

The iconic Mehrangarh FortIt is situated on a 150m high hill. Rao Jodha, the then chief of Rathore clan, constructed it in 1459. There are a number of attractions within the fort like several palaces, galleries, a museum, temples and so on.

Udaipur is a city and a municipal council in Udaipur district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is the historic capital of the former kingdom of Mewar in Rajputana Agency, and the administrative headquarters of Udaipur District. It is also known as the City of Lakes. The Pichola lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in this city

are considered some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. It is known for its Rajput-era palaces. Particularly famous is the Lake

Palace, which covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake. Many of the palaces have been converted into luxury hotels.

Places of Interest• Pichhola Lake : This lake is the centre-piece around which Udaipur revolves. . The lake is surrounded by hills,

palaces, temples bathing ghats and embankments. Two island palaces, jag Mandir and jag Niwas (Lake Palace) on the lake are of breathtaking magnificence. A few crocodiles are believed to live in the more remote parts of the lake near uninhabited sections of the shore.

• Pratap Memorial : Atop the Moti Magri or prarl hill, overlooking the Fateh Sagar lake is the memorial of the Rajput hero Maharana Pratap with a bronze statue of the Maharana. Fateh Sagar : A beautiful lake, overlooked by a number of hills on the three sides and the Pratap memorial on the north was built by Maharana fateh singh. In the middle of the lake is Nehru Park a lovely garden island with a boar shaped cafe accessile by an enjoyable boat ride.

• City Palace : A majestic architectural marvel towering over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenulated walls, it is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces corridors rooms and hanging gardens. A fusion of Medieval European and Chinese architecture, the City Palace was built by Maharaja Udai Singh. This marble monument is situated on the eastern banks of Lake Pichola.A triple arched gate called Tripolia, built in 1725, provides the entry to the palace.

• Jagdish Temple : Built in 1651A.D. by Maharana Jagat Singh, this Indoarmy temple is the largest and the most beautiful temple if Udaipur with noteworthy sculpted images.

• Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum : The interesting collection exhibited by this Indian folk arts museum includes folk dresses ornaments puppets masks dolls folk musical instruments folk deities and paintings.

• Sajjan Garh : Dominating the city's skyline is the monsoon palace of sajjan Garh. It offers a panoramic overview of the city's lakes, palaces and the surrounding countryside.

• Gulab Bagh : A spectacular rose Garden laid out by maharana Sanjjan Singh A library in the garden has a rare collection of ancient handwritten manuscripts and books.
