Honeywell Aerospace Engineering Process (AEP)
• Vision: “Develop perfect QMS for Engineering”
• Goals / Value Proposition
- “Clean House” remove conflicting/obsolete command media
▪ Reduce cost/overhead to maintain processes
▪ Reduce compliance/quality issues
- Drive uniform processes across all sites
▪ Simplify cross-Site work
- Leverage Honeywell User Experience (HUE)
▪ Minimize time searching for processes
• Scope: “Process by E&T for E&T”
- Identified 1000’s of E&T owned items
- Retired/Archived 65%+ of them
- Transitioned/integrated ~1000 items
AEP: The One Source For E&T Processes
2
Accomplishments✓ Production & QA Environment established
✓ Aero Enterprise Stages License acquired
✓ Incorporated >95% of E&T Command Media
✓ ~65% Reduction in Aero Procedures
✓ Several thousand unique users to date
✓ Feedback & Review developed
✓ 1000’s Feedback processed
✓ Age / Responsiveness improved 4x

Where We Started
• Gathered CTQ’s (Critical To Quality) from Executive Leadership and Key Stakeholders
- Supported Honeywell User Experience (HUE) standards
- Easily establish, maintain, and drive Compliance to key industry standards (AS9100, CMMI, DO-178)
- Scalable solution, providing support for broadly distributed modeling/authoring community
- Low risk, proven solution…strong reputation, recommendations, and customer base
• Conducted cross-organizational workshop
- ~30 people for 2 days to set expectations and plan roll-out
- Defined process architecture, tool scope, user interface elements
• Started the Journey
- Refined/adjusted process architecture to simplify and ensure compliance by leveraging strong
process change management discipline, using custom Feedback & Review functionality
- Maintained separation of “what’s” and “how’s” (process vs. practice) used a phased approach to
incorporation and deployment
- Early definition and continuous improvement of modeling guidelines allowed scaling the number of
modelers, parallelize the work, and let people own their content
Benefited from Method Park’s tool and Process Modeling expertise

How Users Interact with AEP/Stages Today

Users use AEP
in Stages as
Aero Process
Users can work
against a Product
Line Instantiation
Some Users work to
Project specific views

Maintain Process MOS for Users, Authors, Modelers
• Content organized into 3 main workflows:
- Workspace Management
- Process Development
- Create and Manage
Projects (a.k.a. Tailored
Process Management)
• Honeywell partnered with
MP to create integrated
Feedback & Review
- Users create FB “in-line” with
process content
- Feedback & Review workflows
provide assurance of proper
responsiveness and oversight

Business provides SME’s, EOPS provides Infrastructure Expertise
Leadership ESTABLISHES STRATEGIC PLANS, RESOURCES; MONITORS PROGRESS• Develop/maintain strategic improvements plans
• Id, flow objective & goals; identify & drive process improvements via productivity projects
• Identify process owners and provide resources (people & funds)
End Users / Subject Matter Experts (SME’s)
• Identify improvement opportunities via Feedback
• Support improvement efforts as team leads or members
Engineering Process Owners & Groups (EPGs)• Define, maintain, evaluate, improve Standard Aero Engineering processes, practices (guidance),
resources (forms, checklists), and performance baselines/models
Business
• Productivity Project Leads: Plan, implement and deploy Productivity Improvements
• Process Focals: Define, maintain, evaluate, and improve business unique processes
Engineering Operations (EOPS)
• Provide infrastructure & tooling support
• Manage productivity and process improvement/maintenance operating system

What’s Next
• Better leverage Phase & Milestone capability/views, consists of:
- Honeywell improving the data fidelity and MP developing views that include only “key” items
• Improve/Leverage Tailoring
- Better understanding and usage of Stages various tailoring capabilities
- Hampered by inconsistencies in content structure across processes and business need
• Refine Architecture
- Currently one monolithic configuration integrated all process workspaces; weighing pro’s/con’s of
federated or sub-grouped solutions
• Leverage Functionality
- Version management to manage resources (using SVN and/or SharePoint)
- Utilizing ability to have some content “float” to always show most recent
• Investigate integration with other COTS tools (e.g. IBM Rational Team Composer)
• Adopt v7.x (Target Q1’18, original plan was Q3’17)
• Expand beyond Engineering (Target transition all Aero Process by 2020)
Process Content Changes are “Separate” and On-going
