Flow Meter Verification / Proving

• Each device has its manufacturer stated accuracy specification and its tested accuracy

• The API requires an accuracy of 0.02%.i.e., 6.45 teaspoons or a little more than 2

tablespoons of oil in one barrel

• Due to change of ownership products are measured up to 11 times on average

• Example:

An 8 inch Jet Fuel line delivers product from a storage terminal to a Major Airport at a flow rate of 15,000

litres per minute.

The meter used in the line is off by 1/4 of 1% and the Jet Fuel wholesales for €0.50 per litre,

Therefore incorrect invoicing in a month will be:

15,000 litres per minute X 60 minutes X 24 hours X 30 days X 0.0025 error factor X €0.50/litre = € 810,000
