Dear friends of the university,

Renowned educator Booker T. Washington once advised, “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” During the past year, supporters of CSU Bakersfield have done just that. Contributions to the university, both financially and through volunteer efforts, have enabled us to “lift up” students and faculty by enhancing programs and facilities. I am grateful for your generosity.

Over the years, private gift support has become an important component of every American college and university budget. This is especially true for public universities, like CSUB, as state resources continue to decline. While state funding does provide basic financial support, gifts that fund scholarships, endow programs and faculty positions, and enhance learning environments ensure expansion and advance excellence.

In this donor honor roll, we proudly recognize the commitment of our alumni, friends, and corporate and civic leaders as essential partners with the university. Their gifts have an immediate impact on the wide variety of projects and programs available to our students.

Some of this year’s contributions have helped to equip and enhance our new science building, provide scholarships for student researchers, athletes and others, and develop programs to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Volunteers have offered input and leadership on university boards and actively assisted with numerous activities and events.

Contributions to CSUB also advance the health and economic vitality of our region. Our donors are helping to improve our economy with a better-educated and prepared work force. Together, we are investing in tomorrow’s corporate leaders, bankers, artists, teachers, nurses, accountants, entrepreneurs.

Endowment funds offer donors the opportunity to support CSU Bakersfield, its programs and its students in perpetuity, thereby leaving a legacy at the university. Endowment funds, a priority for the university, are permanent funds where the original gift is held and earnings are managed for growth. Distributions from the endowments provide a reliable source of funds for university programs and scholarships year after year.

At the end of the 2007-08 fiscal year, the total under management in endowment funds was $16,415,498. The following is a listing of the funds established prior to June 30, 2008.
