The Legacy of Jacqulyn B. Ryan-White

JACQULYN B. RYAN-WHITE was the first of three beautiful daughters born to Jack and Melba (Butts) Ryan on January 14, 1942, in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Jacqulyn departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer on May 20, 2014, in Augusta, Georgia.

At a young age, Jacqulyn attended Monitor Elementary and graduated from Monitor High School with high honors. Throughout her youth, Jacqulyn had an aptitude for music. She took piano lessons and played clarinet for her high school band.

After graduating from Savannah State College (University) in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education, Jacqulyn began her extensive career in education at Fort Valley State College (University) where she worked as a secretary in the agricultural department. She then relocated and taught in Homerville, GA. In 1968, Jacqulyn moved to Augusta and started teaching business education at Lucy Laney High School where she remained for two years. She was later transferred to Richmond Academy where she was one of the first African-American teachers. While there, she received her master’s degree from South Carolina State College (University). Jacqulyn retired in 2002 from teaching after having completed 38 years in education.

Jacqulyn accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and began her spiritual journey being nurtured by loving parents and extended family. She joined Salem First Missionary Baptist Church, where she played piano for the youth choir, Sunday school, and Baptist Training Union. Jacqulyn also played piano for Holsey Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. After moving to Augusta, she united with the Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was active in the Credit Union and Welcome ministries until she was unable to serve. During her illness, Jacqulyn also participated in Life Healing Ministries.

Jacqulyn accomplished many of her academic and professional goals prior to meeting and marrying her husband of 18 years, Mr. Gerald C. White in September of 1995. Jacqulyn and Gerald shared special common interests, especially music and traveling. Jacqulyn and Gerald spent time traveling within the United States and abroad including the Bahamas, Cancun, Texas, Las Vegas, and Hilton Head.
