DESCRIPTION: Honors Chemistry is a first year chemistry course that will provide a strong chemistry
foundation. Through class discussion, laboratory investigations, group activities, science fair project, and
assessments, students will learn about chemical concepts and phenomenon. It is assumed that students will takeAdvance Placement chemistry or college chemistry in the next two years.
GOALS: 1. To provide students with a thorough knowledge of basic chemistry.
2. To teach students to confidently investigate and interpret chemical phenomenon.3. To prepare students for college chemistry, or AP Chemistry.
REQUIREMENTS: Expect students to spend two to three hours each week on homework, and one hour completing each lab (every week or two). Students should have completed Honors Physical Science and
Honors Algebra II. If you had trouble with Algebra II, you will need extra help to do well! Students are
expected to study and practice. This course requires commitment and effort. There are no shortcuts to success!
RESOURCES: My e-chalk class page will have homework assignments, notes, and the weekly schedule posted
(including upcoming tests). The complete semester syllabus with topics and dates is also available online.Students will be using www.webassign.com for homework and in-class practice. Passwords for both programs
will be distributed in the first week of school. Students are expected to bring computers to class DAILY!Grades will be posted on www.mygradebook.com. I will send passwords and access instructions via email this
week.

DISCIPLINE: Discipline problems are rare in my classes. I sincerely care about my students and I want morethan anything for them to succeed. However, should a student choose to be disrespectful, to disrupt learning in
the classroom, or to disobey any school rule, the following policy is in effect:
First offense: warningSecond offense: 30 minute Friday detention
Third offense: write-upAny lab safety violation will result in a detention and write-up
Parents and students, please sign and return the signature sheet given to students
on the first day of class.
