Marissa Davis Honors Day Keynote Speaker

We welcome to the lectern as Keynote Speaker Ms. Marissa Davis, a senior majoring in business management, with a focus on Human Resources and Organizational Behavior. She is a graduate of LeaderShape, the International Leadership Orga-nization, and a member and officer of the Progressive Black Student Organization. Marissa has worked on campus in the Orientation and Transition Office and in several internships and jobs off campus since she came to UNT in 2010. This year, she is serving as President of North Texas Forty, a service organization that promotes school spirit and leadership. Marissa embodies the UNT values of excellence in both academic and leadership pursuits. We congratulate Ms. Marissa Davis on her selection as Honors Day Speaker 2014.

History of Honors DayHonors Day began in 1950, when the Meritum Chapter of Mortar Board Honor Society held the first academic convoca-tion. Blue Key Honor Society later added a banquet for honorees to accompany the convocation, which continued under the guidance of Mortar Board. The university formally assumed responsibility for all activities of Honors Day in 1972, via proc-lamation of the University president and the student government president. Arrangements since that date have been handled by the University Honors and Recognition Committee which is broadly representative of UNT. Honors Day is sponsored jointly by the Division of Student Affairs and the Honors College. The purpose of the Honors Day Convocation is to recog-nize students who exemplify excellence in academic and leadership pursuits, and to give the University Community an oppor-tunity to celebrate the accomplishments of these individuals and the wonderful institution of which we are a part.
