MSP Photography will be taking our school photos again this year. They will be taken on Tuesday 26th July from 8.45am. Individualised envelopes were sent home last week. If you would like a family photo envelopes are available from the office. Similarly, our School Captains, House Captains and Junior School Council have photos taken which families are welcome to also order. Please pick up a SPECIAL GROUPS envelope from the office. All payments are made directly to MSP Photography so please follow payment instructions that are on the envelopes carefully. Please note: you cannot Direct Debit to Kialla Central Primary School for your photos.

Last Thursday an expression of interest was sent home for our 3/4 camp to Billabong & our 5 / 6 camp

to Melbourne. The purpose behind sending out this information early is to not only ensure the camp remains cost effective for everyone and to confirm our numbers but also to ensure we meet the Department’s stringent requirements, such as: adult to student ratios. Another reason is to give our families time to pay off the camp over a period of time instead of one lump sum. If you have any questions regarding either camp please come and see me.

This year our grade 5 & 6 students also have the opportunity to go to Somers Camp. The dates are from

29th November to the 7th December. Further information and expressions of interest will be sent home when available.

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE Just a reminder to parents it would be appreciated if families who want a set day or days are encouraged to book in advance to assist with planning for our OSHC program. Currently, our service is 1 educator to 19 students so we are getting close to reaching our maximum on some nights. Our OSHC program is still flexible for our casual users. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

I would also like to inform you that unfortunately, Patsi Makaronis has left our OSHC program. She picked up an OSHC position at Bouchier St PS due to more hours including before school and holiday programs. We wish Patsi all the best in her new job! I am investigating options to replace Patsi to give Heather some support, especially for our busy days.

After many years of fierce rivalry our Play Station in the OSHC room is on its last days. If anyone has an old Play Station or one that they no longer need please let me know. Any donations would be appreciated.

On Friday our students had a briefing about the Goulburn Valley Primary School Health Behaviours Monitoring

study. All Grade 2, 4 and 6 students at our school are being invited to participate. This study will examine influences on healthy weight and related behaviours (physical activity, sedentary behaviour, diet quality and quality of life) among children and adolescents across the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria. Further information is in this newsletter.

Some more cases of head lice have been reported. I cannot stress enough the importance of regular checks of your child/ren’s hair. All families must be vigilant in order to keep this issue under control.

The winner of our fire wood raffle are the Thompsons (CFA) of Kialla Central Rd. Debbie Humphries Proud Principal of K.C.P.S.

REMINDERS Photo envelopes & payment ~ are due by Tuesday 26th July. Payment to be made directly to MSP photography.

Whole School Excursion ~ Melbourne due back by Tuesday 2nd August with $10 for lunch. Camp expressions of interest & deposit ~ due Thursday 11th August

… SAVE THIS DATE …

MONDAY 29TH AUGUST 2016

Parents’ Club are hosting our

“GIRLS NIGHT IN …”

Goulburn Valley Primary School Health Behaviours Monitoring study Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Goulburn Valley Primary School Health Behaviours Monitoring study is an exciting study that is being

conducted at your school. All Grade 2, 4 and 6 students at your school are being invited to participate. This

study will examine influences on healthy weight and related behaviours (physical activity, sedentary

behaviour, diet quality and quality of life) among children and adolescents across the Goulburn Valley region

of Victoria. We ask that you please read the information carefully, so that you can make an informed decision

about your child’s participation. We ask that you only return the OPT-OUT consent form should you and or

your child decide NOT TO participate. We are using an OPT-OUT consent process whereby your child’s

participation in this study is assumed unless you indicate via the return of the signed

OPT-OUT consent form that you do not wish for your child to participate.

If you and your child agree to participate we would like your child to complete the following activities:

Complete a brief physical activity, sedentary behaviour, food intake and health and wellbeing questionnaire (Grade 4 and 6 only);

Have their height, weight and waist circumference measured in a private and professional manner with trained researchers (All Grades 2, 4 & 6);

Some children will be asked to wear a match box sized activity monitor (accelerometer) on their right hip during waking hours for 7-days. They will need to return this monitor to school at the end of the

week (All Grades 2, 4 & 6).

All activities will be conducted throughout a normal school day, in school time.

All information obtained in connection with this research that can identify your child will remain confidential. Your child’s data will be made anonymous during analyses, therefore, you child will not be identified in any report, publication or presentation.

Results of this study will provide information about effectiveness of current efforts to improve the health of Victorian children and adolescents. This information will be used by educators, policy makers, health service providers and researchers in future efforts to improve the health of Victorian children and adolescents. If you require further information or have any problems or concerns regarding this research, you can contact

Dr Claudia Strugnell.

With warm regards,

Claudia Strugnell

KIALLA UNITED FOOTY ~ Round 8

Cold temperatures and sunny skies greeted the

combatants on Saturday morning as Southern Power took

on Numurkah White in a very entertaining match at the

Kialla West Rec reserve. Our boys really took it up to

Numurkah early with relentless pressure and great

teamwork, scoring first against their noted fast-starting

and taller opponents, going in to the first break only 3

points down. The second quarter was even better as our

boys scored repeatedly through Jacks Baldi and Hooper,

who were standouts throughout the entire game, and a

great running major from Noah Smith while their

opponents wasted opportunities in front of goal, the

Power taking a slender 3-point lead into the main

break. Rhys Ferrier was enjoying a breakout game down

back, ably supported by the Telford boys and Kyle

Howard while Xavier Scott was giving our runners

plenty of the ball from the ruck. After half time however,

it was a different story as Numurkah seized control of the

game and poured on the goals, keeping our boys scoreless

for the quarter and turning the game on its head. A

much improved effort from our boys in the last quarter

wasn’t enough though, as Numurkah was able to answer

every challenge and ran out comfortable winners in the

end. While not reflected in the score line it was one of our

boys’ best games of the year as they showed great

defensive pressure but also some very impressive

attacking play through tremendous teamwork and hard

running in a solid team effort.

Final scores saw Southern Power 6 2 38 to Numurkah white 10 16 76.

Goal Scorers were Jack Baldi 2, Jack Hooper 2, Noah

Smith and Riley Krake 1 each.

Pizza Hut award went to Rhys Ferrier.

Saturday we head to Numurkah for the clash against

their Blue team, eager to reverse the result against our

northern opponents!

Go Power!

Team Player Award Congratulations Kasey B on being this week’s winner. Kasey simply takes up her certificate to the Shepparton Market Place store and she will receive a free Boost Juice.

K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2016

Talking Footy with Bomber 10

Round 17 Wrap – The last of the Thursday night games was played where

the Swans took on the Hawks at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Swans

were 1 point in front with only minutes to go when the birthday boy Cyril

Rioli was able to kick a goal from beyond the 50 meter arch to put the

Hawks in front by 5 points which gave them the win.

On Friday night the Cats had a win over the Dockers over in the west by 17

points and then on Saturday afternoon the Bombers put a good fight against

the Tigers, but in the end the Tigers defeated the Bombers by 19 points. The

Power defeated the Kangaroos by 28 points, the Bulldogs had a good win

over the Suns by 48 points and the Crows defeated the Magpies by 28

points.

On Sunday the Eagles defeated the Blues by 7 points, the Saints had a good

win over the Demons by 36 points and the Giants had a big win over the

Lions by 79 points.

With only 6 more rounds of footy for the 2016 season to go we are now at the

business end of the footy year. What teams will remain in the 8 and can the

Power, Saints, Demons or Magpies make it into the final 8?

Footy Tipping Stars of the Week – for round 17 were Coralie, Dot Dot Choco

Star and Tiger 8 who all tipped 8 games correct. Well done to you all.

Footy Tipping Ladder Leaders – after round 17 our ladder leaders are still

Fourquarters and Two Tigers on 103 followed by Coralie and Bomber 10 on

102 and on 101 are Greymouse, Rocket and The Old Don.

Sorry X-Man the Kangaroos did not bounce back this week and they need to

get their skates on if they want to stay in the 8.

Sunnyside issued a challenge to Bomber 10 that if the Tigers defeated the

Bombers she would have to wear a Tigers scarf for the week. Looks like you

will see Bomber 10 wearing that Tiger scarf this week.

Bomber 10 is off to see the Bombers take on the Lions in the clash of the

cellar dwellers on Sunday at Etihad.

The Jackpot currently stands at $33:60

Good tipping everyone!
