KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3

Last Friday we had our annual whole school excursion to Melbourne. It was certainly a big day leaving at 7.00am

and returning at 5.15pm. We visited the Jurassic Exhibition, the Imax Theatre, the Museum and finished with lunch at Café Cavallino in Lygon St. We had lots of positive comments about how well our students behaved which made us all very proud! There will be a special feature about our excursion in next week’s newsletter. Thank you to all of our families who completed and returned the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Opinion Survey. This year 25 out of 44 surveys were returned. These have now been sent to the auditing company and our results are usually available at the start of Term 4.

On Monday 8th August the Shepparton Small School’s Network hosted a parent session with Michelle

Trudgen on “The Anxious child” at the Shepparton RSL. There were around 100 people who attended to hear Michelle’s presentation. She made lots of thought provoking statements and provided practical examples throughout her talk. For example: “Anxiety is a normal human emotion, Anxiety is an OVERESTIMATION of danger

PLUS an UNDERESTIMATION of coping skills

EQUALS AVOIDING a situation, person or place that is not actually DANGEROUS. Her finishing statement was: “The sooner you face your fears … the sooner

your fears will fade. Michelle has a website www.actcurious.com and is also on Facebook. She has a number of resources available on a variety of topics which you can access via the website or FB. Last night’s session was recorded and will be available shortly. Thank you to those families who attended, I’m sure you found the session interesting and worthwhile.

Our very pro-active Parents’ Club have been extremely busy organising our next fundraising/social event. On

Monday 29th August they are hosting “Time Out For The Girls” indoor market for our community. They have invited a number of local businesses to be part of this event. Narelle Pell and Kathy Fuller are going to briefly share their recent adventure of completing 7 Marathons, across 7 States in 7 days as a fundraiser for Bravehearts. You can support this event by coming along with a friend or two to ensure it’s success and enjoy some you time! See attached flyer for further details.

Our annual Scholastic Book Fair has arrived. It will be setup in the Library and students will be able to start purchasing next week. Our Book Fair will run into Book Week which is from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August. We are finalising this year’s activities and will let the students know what is happening later this week.

Joanne Stonehouse is taking Long Service Leave from 17th August to the 8th September. We wish Pete & Jo all

the best for their Canadian adventure! Lisa Irwin is going to be replacing Jo during this time. She will be here Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Debbie Humphries Proud Principal of K.C.P.S.

REMINDERS When you are making a Direct Debit or BPAY payment please let us know what the payment is for. Send an email to the school telling us what the payment is for especially when is is for multiple things such as: uniform, Outside School Hours Care or camp deposit. It makes it easier to process these payments. Thanks for your co-operation.

Camp expressions of interest & deposits are due Thursday 11th August. Please note: if your child is not going on camp I would appreciate a note explaining why he/she is not attending.

Melbourne Excursion On Friday 5th August Kialla Central Primary School had its annual whole school excursion to Melbourne. We visited the Jurassic World exhibition, we went to the Imax Theatre and saw Dinosaurs: Prehistoric Planet and finished with the Dinosaur Walk Exhibition. It was then off to Lygon St to

Café Cavallino for lunch. It was a fantastic day and our students behaviour was outstanding with numerous positives comments.

Congratulations to our kids, I was very proud of you! Thank you to Mr Z, Miss Baker, Mrs O, Mrs Gamble, Mr McCully & Heather for helping on the

excursion.

KIALLA UNITED FOOTY ~ Round 11 Perfect playing conditions greeted the Power on Saturday as the boys took to the field against Nathalia eager for another victory. Our boys got off to another fast start and things looked bright but Nathalia found their running game and by quarter time had got to within 1 point. Bryson Willsmore, one of 5 fill-ins this week due to absences, was providing a great target up forward as our boys really started to gel and play the way we’ve been trying to all year. The next 2 quarters were a dour struggle with scoring difficult as both sides threw themselves at the ball and their opponent but importantly our boys were able to keep the opposition goalless while scoring 3 of our own. Ed Telford was solid in the backline while Jack Puise and Xavier Scott were giving our on-ball brigade first use of the ball as the Ferrier boys, Aiden Bollard and Jack Baldi all battled hard for our team. The last term was all the Power as our boys managed 5 goals, 3 to a rampaging Jack Puise, to grab the momentum and run away with the game. One goal involved 5 players, 5 kicks, took 10 seconds to go from the defensive goal square to our goal without an opponent touching it, in the finest display of running footy we’ve seen this year. Again Jack Hooper was masterful through the centre and up forward as all our boys contributed in an awesome team effort!

Final scores Nathalia 4 6 30 to Southern Power 11 8 74

Goal Scorers were Bryson Willsmore 3, Jack Puise 3, Jack Hooper 2, Noah Smith, Jack Baldi and Tace Bigmore 1. Pizza Hut award went to Euan Morrissey. A huge thank you to Bryson Willsmore, Jack Puise, Aiden Bol-lard, Tace Bigmore and Cody Crossland for filling in for us on their bye weekend.

Another tough match this week against Mooroopna White at their home ground. Let’s carry Saturday’s momentum over and keep the winning feeling alive! Go Power!

Team Player Award

Congratulations Megan on being this week’s winner. Megan is very attentive in looking out for our junior students especially in the sandpit. She ensures everyone has an area to work in and that they are all are aware of each others creations. Now she simply takes up her certificate to the Shepparton Market Place store and she will receive a free Boost Juice.

SCHOOL DISPLAYS There are a couple of new displays of students’ work for you to come and have a look at. In the Library area, we have the Rio Olympic mascot made by our grade 2 to 6 students.

In the Gallery, we have the F/1 Rio Olympic Mascots. Also in the Gallery are our Dinosaur projects the students did in Design & Creativity Technology. The F/1s had to make a skeleton of a dinosaur. The 2 to 6 students were required to to do a mini fact sheet about a dinosaur of their choice and also re-create their skeleton.
