PrinciPal’s rePort Welcome back to a new term – the fourth quarter. I hope you had a wonderful holiday whatever or wherever you went. We managed a few days of good weather to get out and about. A special welcome to our four stu-dents who spent the last six weeks of Term 3 in China. We are all looking forward to hearing from Jess Chamber-lain, Tegan Frankel, Denita Reid and Flynn Grace about their exploits and experiences and we hope they will be able to share some of the Chinese culture with us later this term.

We return to school with some good news. Our Year 11 Business Management class entered and won the state-wide CPA business award for their project. The challenge was for the students, Jacob Holm , Ash Chamberlain, Connor McLean and Jack Bellinger, to design a unique start-up business tailored to their local community. They chose to establish the mythical, but highly practical, ‘Mallee Sport and Rec-MSR. It was a significant project in-volving detailed planning around staffing, stock management, wages, profit margins, projected sales, advertising and so on.

The even better news is that not only did the Year 11 class win the state award, they won the Australasian Award at a ceremony in Melbourne earlier this week for their outstanding project. Congratulations go to the four boys who were assisted by Elise who has moved to another school, who helped in the initial phase and to Mrs Wright for her support and direction.

It was certainly pleasant returning to school on Monday and finding a bright, fresh corridor, new doors, the bus loop re-sealed and the small cover area sealed with asphalt. The western-end of the corridor looks stunning and certainly helps to lift the spirits of students and staff.

There are a few more maintenance jobs to be completed over the next month such as painting of the window frames along the western end and some plumbing work but, overall the company employed to do the mainte-nance work have done a wonderful job.

Another change involves our ‘mini farm’ which is being managed by our VCAL group. We’ve had Cows Create

Career, our goats have come and gone – now we have sheep. Yes, five ewes have joined our feed-lot enterprise.

School Captains

The process for electing our new School Captains is now well underway. The six nominees, Ashley Chamberlain, Jacob Holm, Chloe McGee, Isabella Grace, Jack Bellinger and Connor McLean, have written their profiles which were published in our newsletter last term. This week they have each been interviewed by a panel of teachers and students. Next week the six students will present their election speeches to our school assembly. The stu-dents will then vote. An announcement on the successful candidate will be made at the Year 12 celebration as-sembly on Thursday 26th October.

Coming Up This Term

Camps feature prominently this term. The Years Prep to 4 students are currently on camp at Halls Gap and the Years 5 and 6 students will be heading off to Melbourne with the cluster schools in a few weeks’ time. Year 8 students will be heading off to Federation University for an over-night visit late November followed by their An-glesea camp in December. We have the usual Term 4 features which includes Year 12 celebrations, VCE exams and exams for Years 9 to 11 later in the term, transition days and the Valedictory Dinner. We also have a range of end-of-year celebrations culminating in our prestigious Awards Night on Tuesday 19th December. There is a huge amount of work in front of students and staff, however, I am sure we are all up to the challenge as we look for-ward to the final 11 weeks of the school year.

Hats Policy

Just a reminder that all students should be wearing their approved school hats this term. Hats are available for $5 from the office.

ALL THE BEST

ANGELIKA HAKOPA

What are your plans for 2018?

To head to university and hopefully do a double degree in Business and Sports management.

What will you miss the most about the school?

The caf and hanging out with my friends.

What advice do you give our students for next year?

Listen to your teachers and also enjoy school, it goes faster than you expect.

What is your 5 year

vision for the school?

A coffee machine in the Year 12 room would make it perfect.

What is your fondest memory of Hopetoun P-12?

Mine and Chloe’s study sessions, which we also gossiped heaps in but we did work hard too.

Year 12

Inside the head of

Dr. David Robinson

Why did you become a

teacher?

Although I became a teacher later in life, I have always loved explaining concepts to people.

What is your 5 year vision for the school?

To see the continuing improvements to the grounds and facilities reach completion.

What has been your biggest highlight at school this year?

The results from the first Year 7 science topic, they are an awesome group!

If you were Principal for one day, what would you do?

Organise the rebuilding of the Science room.

What is the best thing about being a teacher?

Seeing the “Ah ha” moments as students understand something, especially when they thought they couldn’t.
