REGULAR MEETING

The last Sunday every month except May and July

At a university or some public facilities in Kyoto 13:30 – 17:00 A person in charge is supposed to distribute

copies of his/her translation of Hopkins’s poem with a few handouts attached, and provide explication.

After that, we discuss the translation and the original poem thoroughly.

So far we had 411 regular meetings. We discussed the translation of all the pieces of

verse except the ones in Translations, Latin and Welsh Poems in The Poems 4th edition.

GENERAL MEETING

Joint General Meeting of Hopkins Society of Japan Once a year Presentations of the result of research. Exchanging information about the academic

activities of each branch.

So far 43 general meetings were held.

JOURNALS & A BOOK

We publish a journal entitled NONDUM about every three years. The first issue was published in 1974. The latest issue was published in 2014. We have 13 issues published. The title is taken from one of Hopkins’s early

poems. It suggests our determination that we will continue

our research in Hopkins’s poetry because we will not be able to attain our academic goal easily .

Hopkins-no-kokoro , a collection of papers by the members of Kansai Branch was published in book form in 1979.

LONG-LASTING MEMBERSHIP

Most members today have been active for a very long time.

The reason we love our group: Having opportunities to read a great deal of

Hopkins written works Exchanging our opinions frankly. Getting inspiration from the discussion for the sake of our own research.

The frank atmosphere was created by the founding members of our group, and it is what we have succeeded to for 44 years in the activities of Kansai Branch.

Thank you very much for your kind attention!!
