House at the end of the street (2012)

Trailer Horror What is the woman running from? What's in the bottle? Who is Kerry Anne? Who is the man? How is he involved with the evil girl? Are they in a relationship? Will he be able to control the evil girl? Why is he so nervous? Why did they move house?

The use of the rewinding adds to the scariness and confuses and entices the audience. Music stopping and starting adds to the suspense. Quite a cliché plot. A lot of typical horror conventions are used like screaming, murder, scary house.

Fades to black regularly. Loads of close ups are used of scary looking objects and quick cuts are used to make audience shocked and jumpy. Use of rewinding to add confusion.

The shining Trailer Horror Where is it set?Why are they in this massive house? Can the son really see ghosts?Who’s Johnny? What happens to the dad?Is he good or bad?Who are the little girls? Are the girls ghosts?

Narrative of man explaining what happened to last family that lived in that house makes the audience aware that bad things happen in that house. Music stopping and starting creates suspense. Kid screaming is quite conventional in a horror trailer

Loads of long shots zooming in showing the empty rooms in the house to create suspense and make the audience scared of the house. Lots of tracking shots following the little boy around on his tricycle. Quick cuts of family members running around. Quick screaming shots fade to white to scare audience.

The Woman in Black (2012)

Trailer Horror/Thriller What is the relevance of the children? What is in the house? Who is the young man? Who is the woman in black? Why has the man come to the house? Are the children evil or victims? When is it set?

Scary child’s voice narrating used to juxtapose to the usual innocence and pureness of children to add to the scariness. Pathetic fallacy.Really gloomy weather. Dull colours used throughout.Old fashion clothing and scary dolls.

Close ups of old fashioned scary toys to add scariness. Contrasting shots: landscape and close ups. Landscape shots are used to show the empty scary surroundings of the house. There are more shots of the objects in the house than the actual house to show there is evil present inside.

Final destination 5

Trailer Thriller/Horror How did the explosion start? How can he see the future? Why were they supposed to die? How did the bridge smash? Is there a pattern in their deaths? Are they all going to eventually die? What is causing all this to happen?

There is a dialogue giving away the story as this is the fifth in the series and people who watch this trailer know what the films are about already. The characters are shown in a situation then you are shown something that will cause them to get hurt.

Lots of long shots of the bridge breaking. Then there are a lot of mid shots during taking scenes. Then there are loads of quick cuts to show all the different types of deaths.
