DAY ONE

Departing from the Phoenix area, today offers a fantastic range of scenes from the Sonoran Desert, historic Route 66 in Winslow, and the Navajo Nation. Winslow, Arizona is our first stop – “where I was standing on a corner” – to visit the historic La Posada Hotel, which serves as a reminder as to why Route 66 and the Santa Fe Railroad was so important back in the day. We’ll continue with a tour of Hubbell Trading Post Historical Site, where the past lives on! Navajo artists still bring their rugs and silver work to trade here. After having a chance to marvel at the intricate artwork of the Navajo, we will head onward to Chinle, the home of Canyon de Chelly. We’ll tour the south rim of Canyon de Chelly with overlooks of Spider

Rock and the ancient White House Ruins.

DAY TWO

An early morning start allows us to be among the first to enter Canyon de Chelly. A Navajo guided tour will take us into this amazing maze of canyons and ancient dwellings. Navajo farmers and shepherds still inhabit the canyon, and we pay due respect. This iconic Native American destination has inspired films, novels, and legends.

On to Monument Valley Tribal Park! In the heart of Dinetah, the Navajo word for their land, is this iconic destination. A local Navajo guide will join us for a tour of Monument Valley, which touches all of the famous monoliths of Monument Valley and explores the spectacular rock formations of the restricted areas, which can only be seen with a guide. Highlights include The Mittens, John Ford’s Point, Three Sisters, North Window, Totem Pole, Yei Bi Cheis, and Artist’s Point. The restricted areas included in today’s tour will highlight Anasazi Petroglyphs and magnificent rock formations such as Ear of the Wind, Sun’s Eye, Moccasin Arch, and Big Hogan Arch.

DAY THREE

Be sure to rise early to witness the unforgettable sunrise over Monument Valley, with an unparalleled view of the sandstone formations called The Mittens. Then, our route heads west to Lake Powell and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area for two nights at the incredible Lake Powell Resort. Before arriving at the resort, there is a spectacular hike to Horseshoe Bend. Below the overlook, the emerald green Colorado River makes a horse-shoe shape bending 270 degrees before rushing towards the Grand Canyon. An optional afternoon scenic boat tour into Antelope Canyon is a perfect end to a wonderful day, providing exclusive access into the narrow, colorful, and sculpted geology of the lower end of this magical slot canyon. This high-walled Navajo sandstone side-arm of Lake Powell is famous for its coloration and unusual formations. Once at the resort, dinner will be served at the Rainbow Room at Lake Powell Resort with the group.

DAY FOUR

Two incredible activities today will blow your mind! Enjoy an optional boat tour that cruises 50 miles of the unique Lake Powell shoreline to Rainbow Bridge National Monument, one of the largest known natural bridges in the world. The bridge extends 290 feet into the sky and 275 feet across Bridge Canyon. See firsthand how wind and water powerfully sculpted this remarkable landscape. Rainbow Bridge has much cultural importance to a number of area Native American tribes, including the Navajo, and has been designated a Traditional Cultural Property by the National Park Service.

Our afternoon activity will be a Navajo guided walking tour of Lower Antelope Canyon, which the Navajo call Hasdeztwazi or “Spiral Rock Arches”. Herds of pronghorn antelope roamed freely in and around the canyon, which the English name is derived from. The honey-colored canyon was created over many thousands of years

by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving the sandstone into the forms, textures, and swirling shapes that we observe today. Incredible photography opportunities are available all day!

DAY FIVE

As we head south past the Vermillion Cliffs and Painted Desert, we’ll stop at Cameron Trading Post on the Little Colorado River for lunch. The desert gardens are unique and the shopping for authentic Navajo crafts is excellent. We’ll journey along the East Rim of Grand Canyon to Desert View Point, overlooking Navajo Nation and the Sacred Hopi Mesas. As we approach the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, add an optional 45-minute helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon for an aerial view of this great Wonder of the World! You may also choose to hike to several viewpoints along the rim, explore the Visitor’s Center to take advantage of Park Ranger activities, or enjoy a cocktail at the historic El Tovar Lodge in the Grand Canyon Village (we recommend the prickly pear margarita!) Enjoy the views of a Southwest sunset while overlooking the canyon as a perfect end to this amazing day!

DAY SIX

The view at sunrise from the edge of the Grand Canyon is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. The canyon appears to move and change as the sunlight reflects off the multi-colored walls. We’ll find a secluded section to witness the wonder of nature! Heading south, our tour passes the volcanic region of the San Francisco Peaks in the historic Route 66 and Railroad town of Flagstaff, into a scenic drive through Oak Creek Canyon, and to the Red Rock wonders of Sedona for a scenic picnic lunch overlooking the incredible rock formations. The day ends with a descent back into the Sonoran Desert to the Phoenix area.
