The majority of students find golf course careers as assistant superintendents who eventually move up to the golf course superintendent’s position. Others find work in a variety of other settings. Examples of employment areas include: Golf course maintenance Professional sports field managers Lawn maintenance • Sales and service THE PROGRAM Going green is what the field of Horticulture is all about – the earth, the balance of nature, creating a landscape with trees, plants and hardscape to enhance the beauty and the resources to complement our lives. In the Horticulture programs at Kishwaukee College, students learn all aspects of the various fields and practice in classrooms, in the College greenhouse, athletic fields and a 120-acre living laboratory: campus grounds. Students in Sports Turf Management learn fundamentals of the field in the classroom setting and get the hands on experience in our outstanding intern program designed around a 10-week spring semester. Students have the opportunity to work in their chosen internship at the very beginning of the growing season on through the end of summer, from early April through mid-August. Sports Turf students have worked with golf course superintendents on both the local and national level. Others have worked in Minor League and Major League Baseball stadiums as interns. Students in the Horticulture Program also participate in various symposiums, competitions, and workshops across the nation, as well as an extensive field studies programs, some that are international. There are ample scholarships to assist students with associated costs. Requires 70 credit hours. The Horticulture Program is part of the Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Career Cluster: The production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural commodities and resources including food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture, and other plant and animal products/resources. ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE (A.A.S.) DEGREE REQUIREMENTS 1. Complete specific course and program requirements for A.A.S. degree as outlined in the Career/Occupational Programs section of the

catalog. Each curriculum identifies the specific course requirements needed to complete an A.A.S. degree.2. Meet the residency requirement: a minimum of 15 credit hours in 100/200 level Kishwaukee College course work, applicable to the degree,

for each degree earned.3. Fulfill the grade point average requirement of an overall 2.000 GPA in all required and elective course work applicable to the specific degree

program requirement.4. Resolve any incomplete grades in Kishwaukee College course work applicable to the degree. 5. Apply for graduation in the Student Services office or through myKC.
