Some suspense to intrigue the reader

Remember that programs review A LOT of PSes every day. Make sure your PS stands out!

Create separate version of PS for every specialty you will be applying for. Your PS must be specialty‐oriented!

PS shows the reviewer how you fit the program personality‐wise.

Page 14: Host: Julia Stepanova Senior Adviser IMG Residency LLC · Provide your CV and PS to the writer, this will help him/her to emphasize your accomplishments. Waived LoRs. The pros and

Prior to applying via ERAS:

Research the programs in the specialties you are interested in.

Determine programs’ minimum eligibility criteria, ERAS application deadlines, and institutional policies about visas.

Identify programs to apply for via ERAS

Strategy proposed by IMG Residency

Want to apply to less programs with maximum positive outcome? It’s possible!

The more PDs review your profile the better chances you have to impress him/her and get interview invitation.

Contact as many programs as you can (we contact ALL the programs) to find out if you are a right candidate for this program.

Apply to the programs based on PDs’ feedback on your application AND programs credentials (secondary factor).

Page 16: Host: Julia Stepanova Senior Adviser IMG Residency LLC · Provide your CV and PS to the writer, this will help him/her to emphasize your accomplishments. Waived LoRs. The pros and

How many programs should I apply for?

It depends... The better your profile matches the specialty, the fewer programs you need.

It is very important to find out UPFRONTwhat a program requires from its applicants: USMLE scores, attempts, year of graduation, ECFMG certification, etc.

Application to Interview ratio varies from 5 to 20. In other words, if your profile is on a low part of the scale, you should expect about 5 invitations for 100 applications.

Page 17: Host: Julia Stepanova Senior Adviser IMG Residency LLC · Provide your CV and PS to the writer, this will help him/her to emphasize your accomplishments. Waived LoRs. The pros and

How many interviews do I need?

It depends... Usually 7 interviews is enough. As usual, your mileage may vary.

You need 80 potential positions: you have to add up number of positions you interviewed for to get the number.

10 interviews in one specialty should be safe.
