OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

PZS, with its 48 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

Hostel Krško is in the attic of the building Youth Centre Krško, which is located very near center of the city. Hostel Krško was originally intended for youth programmes, but is open for everyone. All age groups are welcome.

The available accommodation capacity: 9-bedded room, 8-bedded room, 3-bedded room and apartment with 4 single rooms. There are 24 beds available and 6 extra beds. The accommodation in hostel Krško provides sanitary facilities, bathrooms with shower, kitchen with cooking facilities, living room with TV, computer with free internet access. All rooms are air-conditioned. The hostel is also adapted for people with special needs. The hostel is also equipped with an elevator.


Krško is a central location of Posavje and a center of municipialty of Krško. The Krško area is easily accessible via transport highway Ljubljana - Zagreb and regional roads from Celje, Maribor, Novo mesto and by international and local trains. The distance to Ljubljana is 98 km and to Zagreb 51 km. Krško offers a number of cafes, bars, pubs and pastry. The town has a wide range of pubs, restaurants and pizzerias. Countryside invites you to the excursion and tourist farms offering pet, regional and local delicacies and visit wineries. Adventure world offers fishing, hunting, speedway, go-karting, horseback riding and also swimming, boating, tennis, rock climbing. Krško municipality has a rich cultural heritage and it’s heart lies in various museums, galleries and other attractions.

Local sights and attractions

Cultural centre of KrškoCultural centre of Krško operates as an independent institution in the field of culture and education, organizes a variety of music, theater and dance events, plays movies, organize lectures, art and other exhibitions. Cultural Centre was built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the city rights in 1977 and is the work of architect Francis Filipčič


Matija Gubec Stadium Matija Gubec Stadium is the scene of a variety of sporting events. The stadium also allows the implementation of training and football matches and other sporting activities. Speedway racing is taking place from April to September as part of the National Championship, qualification for the World Cup, cup competitions and championships clubs and individuals.

Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Power Plant (NPP stands, the Nuclear Power Plant - NEK) is the only Slovenian (and only in the territory of the former Yugoslavia) nuclear power plant, operating since 1981. Annually generates over five billion kWh of electricity, which accounts for approximately 40% of the total electricity produced in Slovenia.

Karting trackThe Krško is a modern karting track, where races take place cards, safe driving school and rental go-karts. They also offer the possibility of organized racing for the final group, which creates real racing atmosphere with the presentation of trophies and champagne.

First Wake Park, Snowboard ParkBorst Lake is located in the immediate vicinity of a military airport Cerklje at Krka. Slopes are newly defined and the car next to them is the other infrastructure - bars, shops and of course places for getting bronze colored water and refreshments. The water is surprisingly warm and really clean - very deep visibility for fresh water.

Kostanjevica CaveThis beautiful cave was formed due to the karst area next to the Gorjanci hills in the Dolenjska region. It was additionally transformed by tectonic movements. Today, it is equipped with an electric lightning system and offers around 300 m of charted routes. The sinter was formed in an interesting way and some of the formations were even given names, such as: St. Nicholas, Christ, the Sabre etc. The guided tour lasts 45 minutes.

Rajhenburg castleOne of the greatest relics of the Middle Ages in the Krško area is the Rajhenburg castle. Standing high above the narrow Sava river valley, it was first mentioned in 895, when it was owned by the Rajhenburg knights.The castle’s current form dates back to the Renaissance period, and the luxurious wall and ceiling frescoes are still well-preserved. In 1881, the castle was bought by the Trapist monks, who turned it into a monastery where delicious chocolate, cheese and liqueur were produced. The saddest part of the castle’s history came during the second world war, when it became a gathering camp for Slovenian exiles.

Today, its chambers contain the Museum of Deportees, the Museum of WWII Political Prisoners and Internees, an exhibition on Trappist monks and a gallery of wines from the Posavje region.
