Hot Rods Connecting Rods

One single connecting rod is where it all began for Hot Rods, and now with two decades of experience, continuously improved designs and an ever-expanding line of applications, Hot Rods has continued to be not only the Original aftermarket replacement rod, but also the best aftermarket replacement rod.

All of our rods are created from 8620 case hardened steel. In addition, our rods also undergo a process of double forging, which helps improve grain flow as well as providing dimensional consistency and that means a rod of uncompromising strength.

To improve durability, all of our rods are also shot peened. This process, utilizing a stainless steel shot, helps remove stress risers and creates more smoothly blended radiuses. And, in the end, a Hot Rods connecting rod is the most durable rod that enthusiasts and engine builders can buy.

However, a rod is only as good as its supporting parts, and thats why a Hot Rods kit features only the most advanced and durable bearings, crank pins and thrust washers. Case hardened, silver coated, flat profile KU bearings are used throughout our entire line and high-quality, long-shouldered KZ bearings are used in our two-stroke wrist pin bearing applications. In short, our bearings are just as tough and reliable as our rods.

Even our crank pins are subjected to the same rigorous standards. Each Hot Rods crank pin is created from hot-rolled ASTM 4115 steel and case hardened to a level of 58-62 Rc.

New for 2013!we will never stop developing at Hot Rods. New for 2013 in the Hot Rods crankshaft line-up are our complete ready-to-install snowmobile crankshafts for the 600, 700 and 800cc Polaris snowmobiles. Just in time for seasonal repairs.

Furthering our ability of supplying everything needed for complete engine rebuilds is an entire line of water pump rebuild kits for dirt bike and ATV applications. These kits include everything needed to restore a blown water pump seal or worn out shaft bearing.

Also for the 2013 season we have expanded our Complete Bottom End kit applications to now include most of our PWC applications. Now PWC mechanics can enjoy the convenience of ordering just one part number when rebuilding engines from the bottom up.

COATED SKIRTS

Aiding in the break-in process and reducing wear, every Vertex piston has a Molybdenum Disulphide (MOS2) coating on the piston skirt.

Vertex Piston Rings

Vertexs latest generation two-stroke and four-stroke piston rings are nitride coated or chrome plated, increasing wear resistance and extending durability. Vertex piston rings are exact OEM replacements.

Vertex Wrist Pin Features

Case-hardened wrist pins are used with all Vertex pistons.

KTM and new T-box four-stroke wrist pins are DLC coated.

Nitride-coated pins are used for high-performance four-stroke engines utilizing a bronze bushing or with engines using a steel connecting rod without bearings. This hardened surface is highly wear resistant and provides anti-galling properties.

Nitriding is a highly specialized surface treatment that produces a highly wear-resistant surface. The significant advantage of nitriding is that the surface hardness is developed without quenching and the attendant distortion problems with case hardening. Finishing operations can be eliminated or held to a minimum.

Vertex Two-stroke Pistons

Because of a cast pistons ability to contain higher silicon content than forged pistons and because two-strokes have lower cylinder pressures than four-strokes, cast pistons are ideal for two-stroke engines. Vertex pistons are gravity cast from aluminum alloy with 18 percent silicon content.

siliCOn is iMpORTAnT BECAUsE: It decreases thermal expansion, which changes the geometry after the piston

reaches operating temperature. With low thermal expansion characteristics, Vertex pistons can be run at tighter tolerances compared to forged pistons. This creates better power and performance, making them less susceptible to rattling or breaking.

Silicon gives pistons better wear characteristics and prolongs piston life by decreasing wear on the piston skirt.

Cast vs. Forged Whats better and why:

Vertex Four-Stroke Pistons

Four-stroke engines have much higher cylinder pressures than two-strokes and are generally manufactured from forgings. To handle the internal pressures of a four-stroke engine, Vertexs four-stroke pistons are forged from the highest quality 2618 aluminum alloy for superior strength and durability. Vertex also utilizes a T-box forging on their highest compression pistons. This new design builds on Vertexs outstanding dedication to quality by making it more durable and able to handle even the most demanding rigors than ever before. A, B, C and D sizes to maximize power and performance while reducing blow-by and oil consumption.
