    ESTABLISHED PRODUCER

    OF TOP QUALITY

    STEEL PRODUCTS

Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. (formerlyNov Hu, a.s. Ostrava) is thelargest steel-making company inthe Czech Republic and a part ofthe worlds largest steel producerMittal Steel.

    In Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s.

production of hot-rolled atproducts has long-time tradition.Production of hot-rolled stripsstarted in 1958. Between 1997and 1999 the production facilityfor production of hot-rolledstrips underwent fundamentalmodernization.

In 1997 a slab continuous castingfacility was put in operation andin 1999 a new wide-strip mill -P 1500 Steckel followed.Manufacturing capacity of theSteckel wide-strip mill is 1 mill.t/year of hot-rolled wide strips. It was not only substantial

diversication in strips in termsof size and quality that the millbrought about. It also createdconditions for further enrichmentof the product range by new steelgrades destined for productionof hot-rolled strips.

    Introduction

    Dear customers,

You are in receipt of an offer catalogue of hot-rolled at products, which are produced in Mittal Steel Ostrava a.s. (formerly ISPAT NOVA HUT,a.s.).

This catalogue represents the basic offer of hot-rolled at products and shall gradually be extended and rened in new editions through theacquiring of a new technology at the wide-strip Steckel rolling mill.

    Description of production technology

The steel for production of at products is produced by oxygen procedure in the 200-ton tilting tandem furnace at the Steel Plant. In 2/3 thebasic input raw material of the melting charge is hot metal, which is supplied by VYSOK PECE OSTRAVA, a.s. (in which Mittal Steel Ostravaa.s. has majority interest). Remaining 1/3 is steel scrap, scrap iron, sponge iron and iron ore.

Production of the hot-rolled wide strip

Liquid steel is transported in ladles to the Minimill area where the steel is processed at the ladle furnace.

The following operations take place at the ladle furnace:

temperature and chemical homogenization steel deoxidation and accurate alloying to achieve the required chemical composition desulphurization reduction of the contents of non-metallic inclusions adjustment of temperature to the specied casting temperature

After the secondary steel processing at the ladle furnace is nished, the ladle containing treated steel is embedded in the turret and the steelis cast through the tundish into the mold. At the slab continuous caster blanks of width from 740 mm to 1575 mm and of 150 mm thickness

are cast. The continuously cast blanks are cut up to pieces of max. 18 m length and transported in hot condition by a roller conveyer to thereheating and equalizing walking beam furnace. After heating to the rolling temperature the slabs are transported to the rolling mill standsof the P-1500 Steckel rolling mill. After descaling the slabs are guided into the double-stand tandem reversing rolling mill with one verticaledging mill. The rolling mill is equipped with two furnace coilers equalizing the temperature of the hot strip and reducing its cooling duringrolling. The process of rolling itself is fully automated.

After the last pass through the mill stand the strip is guided by the roll table through 7 sections of the laminar cooling into the nished stripcoiler. After coiling, adjustment and marking coils are transported to the storage area. For further processing the hot-rolled strips from theSteckel wide-strip mill are delivered directly to customers or are transported to the shearing lines. The shearing lines enable trimming of sideedges of coils, cutting of 33 t coils to coils of lower total weight, slitting of wide strips to narrow strips and cutting of strips into sheets. Atpresent there are 3 slitting lines and 2 cut-to-length lines for production of sheets.

The production facility of the Steckel rolling mill is projected for a yearly output of c.1 000 000 tons of hot-rolled at products.

    Used terminology

The names of products used in this catalogue are in conformity to the standard SN EN 10079:1996 Denitions of steel products

    Seminished products (continuously cast blanks)

Seminished products are continuously cast blanks (slabs) destined for production of hot-rolled strips.

    Hot-rolled strip without coating

Both the European and the national standards distinguish two basic types of hot-rolled at products: hot-rolled strips and hot-rolled sheets.

The hot-rolled strip without coating is a hot-rolled product, which is coiled immediately after passing through the nishing mill stand. Afterthe nishing rolling the hot-rolled strip has either slightly rounded edges or trimmed edges in the case of slit wide strip.

    Hot-rolled strips are divided into:

Hot-rolled wide strips (of width above 600 mm) Slit hot-rolled wide strips (of rolled width above 600 mm and width after slitting below 600 mm)

    Hot-rolled sheet without coating

The hot-rolled sheet without coating is a hot-rolled product with clear edge forming, supplied in tables and with surface in condition afterrolling, mostly of square shape and of width equal to or above 600 mm. The edges are either in condition after rolling (natural edges) ortrimmed.

The sheet produced by cutting of the wide strip at the continuous mill train is called the hot-rolled sheet

In terms of thickness at products are divided into

Thin sheets and strips ( of thickness below 3.0 mm)Thick sheets (plates) and strips (of thickness above or equal to 3.0 mm)

    Steel grades, chemical composition

The chemical analyses of steels, which are stated in the tables of grades suitable for production of hot-rolled strips, should be consideredinformative. The chemical composition of steels according to various standards can differ in the contents of individual elements. For standardsupplies the determinant is the contents of elements specied in the respective standard. If agreed by the production plant, steel strips withmodied chemical composition can also be supplied.

Semi-nished products are at continuously cast blanks (slabs) destined for production of hot-rolled strips at the P-1500 Steckel wide-striprolling mill. They are produced at the continuous casting machine with yearly capacity of c. 1 million tons .

The slabs supplied are of 150 mm thickness and of length between 5.9 and 18 m.Their width ranges from 740 to 1575 mm. For deliveries ofslabs only chemical composition is guaranteed while mechanical values (tensile strength etc.) are not.

Coil weight The following graph shows the approximate weight of coils in relation to the strip width. Wide hot-rolled strips are regularlysupplied in coils of specic weight ranging from 18.0 kg/mm to 21.0 kg/mm of the width. (Coils of lower specic weight can be supplied ifagreed with the production plant). With maximum coil width of 1575 mm the maximum coil weight is 33 tons.

Marking of coils coils supplied from the P-1500 Steckel rolling mill are provided with the following data sprayed on the coil:

Production order Steel grade Strip dimensions Heat number Product ID (product identication code) Coil weight

The identication data can also be printed on a sticking label which is stuck on the agreed point of the coil after it has cooled down.

Coil binding - Wide coils supplied from the P-1500 Steckel rolling mill with natural edge are bound around the perimeter with a cyclopeantape of 32x1 mm depending on the place of destination.

    Standard numbers of perimeter bindings:

for domestic and export deliveries - 2 for overseas deliveries - 3

(If agreed with the production plant, coils can be provided with more perimeter bidings or with cross bindings).

Method of storage during transport - coils are stored on steel pallets (approx. weight 778 kg) with the axis in horizontal positionor they are stored on special wagons.
