MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE
The chief executive of the company, Mr. Davies Kinyanjui Nderu, is in charge of the dailyoperations of the business assisted by a team of senior managers as illustrated on the attachedorganisational chart.
The core business of the company is tourism and hospitality related as the company runs an ever browing hotel in Nakuru. The business opportunity in the sector of hospitality, in which the company is involved in, has continued to grow. This has been on the national level but the effects can be felt in the regional level.
The hotel currently boasts of 120 rooms with a bed capacity of 180 pax which are currently in operation and are charged at an average of Ksh. 5,000.00 per person on bed and breakfast andenjoys an average of 80% occupancy throughout the year but the company is in the process of increasing the rooms to 120 rooms with a bed capacity of 220 pax.
The client base is divided into segments;
1. Tourism (Both Local & International)
The tourism market has the following traditional attractions;
Lake Nakuru and its world famous flamingos, the magnificent view of the Menengai Crater and the Hyrax Hill Prehistoric Site and the towns proximity to the lake Elementaita are just but a few of the attractions to both the traditional international tourists, emerging eastern market tourists and local tourists.
Of interest to note is that Nakuru town acts as a tranist point for all guests to Maasai Mara, the western circuit (namely Kericho - tea zone, Kisumu - lake Victoria, Kakamega - the forests) and the North Rift circuit (namely Lake Baringo with its island camping sites and lake Bogoria with it’shot springs and geysers)
2. Walk-in, Confrencing,outside Catering And Outsourcing
The town’s location is ideal due to central locally and proximity to major towns and cities like Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega and Nairobi, the fact that the town is on Trans-Africa highway and recent creationof the counties has resulted in the town now being referred to as the emerging preferred confrence hub and the revival of various institutions such as the new KCC, Pyrethrum Board and recently the proposed commissioning of the Menengai Geothermal Development Co. project, will go along way in boosting the region’s economically, and Hotel Waterbuck has positioned itself to be able to tap in this business opportunity. It is from this location that the business community and general travelers find it easy to transit from as far as the great lakes region. The element of costs, improved infastructure andlogistics has made the town even more attractive for the businedss and confrencing fratenity than thetraditional confrence hubs such as Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa. In this regard the company’s Directors have embarked on a short and long term expansion and renovation program. The hotel alsoenjoyed a good share of stable customer and clientele throughout the years it has been in business.
In regard to it’s corporate social responsibilities the company has embarked on a principal of ‘’charitybegins at home’’ by supporting the over 200 staff through the creation of the Sacco and Welfare groups. It is the director’s vision to drive the Sacco and Welfare movement to another level.
In adhering to the council by-laws and NEMA regulations the company has proved to be environmentally friendly.
The company has recently embvarked on a major system up-grading project for its IT department andall the other departments. This has so far proved to be a worthy investment for the company as effeciency in all departments has been greatly been improved. The company can now enjoy the benefits of the IT systems which include cost effectiveness, accuracy, efficiency, better time management among others.
