Our Army is the largest service of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), responsible for protecting and defending our security interests and the sovereignty of our nation. Our men and women are trained for high combat readiness, capable of conducting a wide spectrum of operations.

GETTING THEREPulau Tekong is found off Singapore's

northeastern coast. It houses the BMTC as well as other military

training areas. The only way for visitors to reach the island is via a

ferry affectionately known as the Penguin Tekong.

FOODAll meals are provided, and with a different menu each day. Each meal is thoughtfully planned by nutritionists, who ensure meals �t your dietary requirements. Fret not if you have special dietary restrictions; your needs will be catered to.

FACILITIES & AMENITIESBMTC boasts a range of top-notch facilities for training and recreational purposes. This includes a fully equipped medical centre, sports complex, parade square with 2,400 seating capacity, and air-conditioned lecture rooms.

You can use the swimming pool, well-furnished gym, as well as the lounges, which house a television set, board games, and other entertainment.

There’s also an eMart for purchase of any training or daily essentials.

HIGH-KEY EVENTS TO NOTELive Firing: If you’ve never �red a weapon before, here’s your chance. You’ll �re at targets in a 100m ri�e range, and prove your markswomanship!

Hand Grenade Training: You’ll get to throw your �rst real hand grenade. We won’t advise pulling out the safety pin with your teeth though!

Field Camp: Ever wondered if you cansurvive out in a jungle? Find out duringthe 6-day �eld camp, where you’ll diga shell scrape, build a basha, and survive on combat rations. Plus, answer nature’s call, well, in the midst of nature. Trust us, it’ll be quite an experience!

24km Route March: Don your Full Battle Order and put your endurance to the test with this 8-hour-long walk. Along the way, admire the Singapore landscape as it reminds you of the people and places you defend. Take this time to re�ect on your journey, and recognise the transformation you’ve undergone!

Graduation Parade: The culminationof all that you’ve accomplished on the island. It’s going to be a proud moment, not only for you, but also your family and friends who are watching from the stands, and the commanders and companions who have been through this journey with you. Bask in this moment; you deserve it!

Specialist Cadet Course (SCC)The 22-week SCC is divided into three terms of varying lengths – Foundation Term, Professional Term and Combined Arms Term – and it’ll train you to become competent junior commanders.

Officer Cadet Course (OCC)This 38-week OCC covers four modules of varying lengths – Common Leadership Module, Service Term, Professional Term and Joint Term. Upon completion, you’ll be poised to be one of Our Army’s future leaders.

Military Expert Course

Military Expert 1s will undergo a 26-week course, while Military Expert 4s will undergo OCC training that spans over 38 weeks. The training will instil you with military values and qualities, as well as specialised knowledge and skill sets, that will enable you to be a competent leader, strategic planner and domain expert.

ARMOURArmour vocationalists provide mobility, �repower and protection during operations for Our Army to punch through the enemy's defence.

COMMANDOSThe Commandos specialise in raids, reconnaissance and enemy interdiction via air, land, and sea.

ARMY INTELLIGENCEReconnaissance vocationalists are tasked with gathering information without being detected. They then proceed to analyse the data to give Our Army the decisive edge.

ARTILLERY Artillery vocationalists provide precise and effective �repower to neutralise the enemy.

COMBAT ENGINEERSCombat Engineers specialise in overcoming obstacles, slowing down enemy advances and protecting against chemical, biological, radiological and explosive threats.

SUPPLYSupply vocationalists plan, command and provide logistics support across a full spectrum of operations in peacetime and war.

MILITARY POLICE The Military Police upholds and enforces military law, order and discipline in the SAF during peacetime and war.

SIGNALS Signals vocationalists are tasked with setting up and maintaining a stable communication system and defending against cyber threats.

GUARDSGuardsmen are pro�cient in heliborne and underslung operations, allowing them to rig cargoes and vehicles onto a hovering helicopter for rapid deployment.

MAINTENANCE ANDENGINEERING SUPPORT Army Engineers are entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining Our Army’s vehicles, weapons, unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic systems.

ARMY MEDICAL SERVICESMedical professionals in the SAF are responsible for delivering responsive and professional care to soldiers in need of medical attention.

SAF AMMUNITION COMMANDThe Ammunition experts equip the SAF with the latest ammunition. They are responsible for the availability, safety, and performance of a large, diverse inventory of ammunition.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE DEMANDS FROM YOUR WORK AND FAMILY?I am really happy to have the full support of my family, which helps me excel in my work. I will always be there to give advice and a listening ear to my children and loved ones, but I do enforce a strict routine at home. To ensure quality family bonding time, family dinners on Saturday are mandatory.

Chief Warrant Of�cer (CWO) Jennifer Tan, the �rst female CWO, �rst joined the SAF as a Human Resource administrator in 1984. Since then, she has become the �rst woman to take on the roles of Regimental Sergeant Major of 46th Singapore Armoured Regiment and Parade Regimental Sergeant Major of National Day Parade 2011. Other roles include Brigade Sergeant Major of 4th Singapore Armoured Brigade, and Division Sergeant Major of 2nd People’s Defence Force Command. She is currently the Commanding Of�cer of Armour Combat Training Centre.

HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN SO FAR IN OUR ARMY?There were many unforgettable moments in Our Army. I was given many opportunities to travel overseas for courses and exercises, and to work with personnel from some of the best armies in the world. My proudest moment was taking charge of the parade segment during the 2011 National Day Celebrations. I will never forget that experience.

HOW HAS TAKING UP THE SCHOLARSHIP HELPED? I pursued a Bachelor's Degree (Liberal Arts in Psychology and Political Science) from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA, and a Master’s Degree in International Security from Massey University, New Zealand. The educational support I received – coupled with the many professional courses and training opportunities Our Army provides – has helped me mature and grow as an individual. It has also put me in good stead to take on command roles as a leader in the �eld.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?The best parts of the job are the opportunities to lead. It’s like no other, and found nowhere else. You are responsible for the mission of the unit, its operational readiness and the well-being of your soldiers. From the time you have taken the oath to be a commander, you are in charge. Everything that happens or does not happen is on your charge, and wholly your responsibility. You get to enjoy the autonomy and joyful ‘burden’ of making a difference to the lives of soldiers and Singapore’s national defence.

Continuous Learning and Academic Sponsorship Scheme (CLASS) Sponsorship recipient 2nd Warrant Of�cer (2WO) Asrena Bte Ayub’s role as a logistics supply supervisor is never deskbound. To keep things running, she’s always on the go. One moment, you could see her brie�ng the soldiers under her charge, and the next moment, you could see her on the �eld or even deployed overseas to be in charge of logistics operations. Her career experience also includes plenty of academic and professional development opportunities that further empower her to be her best.

IN A NUTSHELL, WHAT’S YOUR WORK LIKE?It’s our job to make the impossible possible and my responsibility is to oversee logistical support. This means we have to be always ready to meet the requests of units, regardless of scope or timeline. My time is split between the of�ce, stores and even in the �eld. That said, it is certainly not just all about work. There are many aspects to the experience here. I participate in track and �eld and air ri�e competitions as well. In fact, I have represented my unit in Army Shooting Meets for quite a few years!

Master Sergeant (MSG) Jaden Tohdeeply values the diverse scope of experiences Our Army has exposed her to. From day one to her current role in the SAF Military Police Command, her varied roles and responsibilities have resulted in her building up a formidable skillset – covering everything from soldiering to leadership. The one thing to keep in mind when faced with new challenges, she says, is one’s mindset.

Military Expert (ME) 2 Shorini Dhurgha’s path thus far in Our Army has seen her going from a Diploma to a Degree, Singapore to Nepal, and a nurse to a soldier. Making a difference is what drives her. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE OUR ARMY OVER THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR?While my Nursing Diploma equipped me with the starting skills to be a staff nurse, I wanted an additional dimension to how I can make a difference. When I learnt more about the SAF Medical Corps and the medical Military Domain Experts Scheme (MDES), I was drawn to the opportunity to be actively involved in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions. After a few years, Our Army has helped me achieve one of my

greatest personal goals – obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

WHAT MAKES PRACTISING YOUR PROFESSION IN OUR ARMY MEANINGFUL?The Medical Corps is the lifeline of the SAF, so it is critical that all Regulars, NSFs, and NSmen stay current with medical protocols and procedures. I contribute in my own way as an instructor, ensuring personnel are always ready to save lives. During my �rst overseas deployment to Nepal for HADR efforts, we put our training to use in real life. It was a profound experience for me – one that reinforced my sense of purpose.

WHAT IS THE ENGINEERING ASPECT OF YOUR CAREER LIKE?As a Military Expert for ammunition, my responsibilities are diverse. I ensure SAF's ammunition stockpile is operational and suf�cient. I also work with fellow engineers to develop new ammunition capabilities which requires technical blueprints, out�eld testing and training. Moving forward, technology will play an increasingly larger and more critical role in defence. I'm glad to be actively involved in such developments which have a direct impact on how we safeguard Singapore’s security and sovereignty.
