For the 5 and 6 bedroom apartments, they come with a bathroom comprising of a 1700mm bath with separate electric shower over and a glass screen, wash hand basin, W.C., bathroom mirror and all walls are tiled. They also come with a separate shower room. The three and four bedroom apartments come with a bathroom and a separate W.C.

Each apartment is supplied with a ‘SKY Free View’ receiver. Aerial points are connected to each bedroom that will also be able to receive the same ‘Sky Channel’ which is tuned in at the lounge T.V.

All the apartments comply with the most recent building regulations. Each property has interlinked mains fire alarm system, fire doors and emergency lights with a valid NICEIC electrical safety certificate.

Each apartment block has stairways within the buildings and each stairway has a lift. There is also bicycle storage and limited parking in the garages at Easton House at a cost of £20.00 per week.

Regarding utility bills, tenants will be liable for paying communal electricity, water and sewerage charges. We anticipate that all electricity bills will be most conservative as these new buildings are well insulated and have PVC double glazing throughout. To minimise the risk of complaints and the need for the University, Northumbria Police or Newcastle City Council’s Environmental Health (who can confiscate equipment and fine noisy households) to contact you.

When you move in, introduce yourself to your neighbours. They will appreciate that you have made the effort. Ask them to pop round if they have any problems. This will help to resolve any minor problems before they get serious and are reported elsewhere. Your neighbours may also be able to keep a look out for any security problems when you are away on vacations.

• Remember that neighbours with children or who get up early to start work may reasonably expect things to be quiet in the evening.

• Tell your neighbours well in advance if you are planning a party and make sure you don’t have too many. Invite them if you can – but always remember to keep the noise down after about 11pm.

NEIGHBOUR? • Avoid impromptu gatherings when you return from a nightclub.

• Keep TV’s and stereo speakers away from neighbours’ walls as noise travels easily. Victorian and Edwardian properties like yours were not designed for multiple occupancy with several sound systems, TV’s etc.

• Be aware that neighbours can often hear people running up and down stairs, doors slamming and raised voices too.

• Most complaints about noise relate to students returning from a night out.

• Don’t make lots of noise in the street, don’t stand outside talking and come back into your home quietly.

• Avoid parking outside your neighbours’ properties wherever possible – it will cause them inconvenience especially if they are elderly or have a young family.

• Many residential areas of Newcastle now have resident’s parking schemes, which mostly allow only two permits per property, so it will be difficult for all students in one house to have parking permits. Do you really need a car during term time?

• Keep the outside of your property clean and tidy. Use your wheelie and recycling bins and make sure you put them out and take them back in at the right time.

• Burglars often use bins that have been left out to get into backyards. Contact the Council’s ENVIROcall on 0191 274 4000 if your rubbish is not collected regularly or you need to know the day your bin will be collected. Keep your garden tidy, or remind the landlord or agent if it is their responsibility and they haven’t been doing it.

• If you have bulky rubbish to get rid of, Newcastle City Council will remove four collections each year free of charge – just phone 0191 274 4000. One “collection” is up to 20 black bags of rubbish.

Many of you may be thinking that you don’t have enough time right now to learn how to cook. Sitting on your bed watching box sets of Lost or all those episodes of One Tree Hill you managed to download combined with the odd essay, may make you think that cracking open a pot noodle is going to be the extent of your university cuisine experience. This does not have to be so my friends! There is a solution, studentcooking.tv!!!!

STEP 01Preheat the oven to 200˚C.

STEP 02Pull off any seeds and any of the dark orange fleshy bits from the pieces of pumpkin. Then carefully slice off the hard skin. Once you’re left with just the soft, fleshy bits of pumpkin, slice these into bite size pieces.

STEP 03Put the pumpkin pieces onto a baking tray and drizzle with olive oil and some salt and pepper. Toss the pumpkin around, making sure it’s all coated in the oil, then place in the hot oven.

STEP 04Peel and finely slice the onion and garlic

STEP 05Chuck the butter into a small saucepan and place over a medium heat.

STEP 06Once the butter has melted, add in the onions and fry for a few minutes. Then add in the garlic.

STEP 07Flick the kettle on, and crumble the stock cube into a jug. Once the kettle’s boiled, make up 250ml of vegetable stock.

STEP 08Add the Arborio rice to the onions and garlic, stir then pour in a bit of the vegetable stock, just enough to cover the rice. Stir.

STEP 09From now, just keep stirring and when the rice has absorbed most of the stock, pour in a bit more to keep it moist.

STEP 10Once the pumpkin has been in the oven for around 10 minutes, give the baking tray a bit of a shake to recoat the pumpkin in the oil.

STEP 11After about 20 minutes, check on the rice and pumpkin. The rice should be nice and gloopy and soft to taste. The pumpkin should be soft too. Take the rice off the heat and take the baking tray out of the oven.

STEP 12Mash 90% of the pumpkin, leaving a few chunks to place on top of the risotto at the end.

STEP 13Add the mashed pumpkin to the risotto and stir well. Chuck in the grated parmesan and check on the seasoning, adding a bit more salt and pepper if needed.

STEP 14Spoon the risotto onto a plate and place the remaining pieces of pumpkin on top. Enjoy!
