House Republican Daily News All of the False Headlines Fit to Print Wednesday, April 1, 2015 April Fools Edition “We are going to make sure every child in Minnesota gets the world class education they deserve.” Speaker Daudt, 2/27/15, Capitol Press Conference April Fools! Kids are the biggest loser in the Republican budget. Even with a $2 billion dollar surplus, the Republican's budget will provide less than a 1% increase for education. When paired with a growing student population, that means real cuts and larger class sizes. It is simply unacceptable for Republicans to give $15 in tax breaks for every $1 they invest in our kids' futures. We will “ensure fair access & affordability in health care.” Speaker Daudt, 1/7/15, Star Tribune April Fools! Republicans plan includes cuts for working families, seniors, and most vulnerable Minnesotans. Despite a $2 billion surplus, the Republican budget plan cuts health care by $1 billion. Working Minnesotans and small businesses would lose their access to affordable health care and seniors and the disabled would experience painful cuts. “House Republicans will listen to Minnesotans, identify problems you care about and work toward solutions.” Speaker Daudt 1/7/15, Star Tribune April Fools! Corporate special interests have been their top priority. The Republican budget doles out $2 billion in tax giveaways while shortchanging education, working families, and our seniors. HF1, the House Republicans' top priority, is a major tax cut for corporate and business special interests. But they have no time for middle class families, voting down solutions important to Minnesotans like the Working Parents Act, student debt relief, and investments in preK education. “We’re not going to leave greater Minnesota behind.” House Majority Leader Joyce Peppin, 11/7/15, West Central Tribune April Fools! The Republican plan shortchanges Greater Minnesota. Underfunding in education will harm Greater Minnesota schools and colleges. And the Republican budget plan cuts the jobs and economic development budget that funds things that help small businesses grow and create jobs like broadband and job training programs. "We're here to protect the family budgets of Minnesotans." Majority Leader Joyce Peppin, 12/15/14 April Fools! Republicans passed bills to cut wages for working Minnesotans. The tip penalty bill would roll back the minimum wage and cut wages for servers. They also killed a student debt relief bill and blocked the Working Parents Act, which would ensure Minnesotans have access to paid family leave and earned sick leave.
