A giant steel barge the length of a football field was launched intoHouston Ship Channel by Port Houston Shipyard Division of Wyatt Industries,Inc. The barge was christened the ARCADIAN 80 by Mrs. Imge Grant, wifeof the president of Wyatt. It is specially built for transporting 2900 tons ofanhydrous ammonia requiring refrigeration at minus 28 degrees Fahrenheit.The barge contains twin tanks each 181/2 feet in diameter by 260 feet inIength. Its design features a laked bow, since it is the lead barge of a twinbarge load. The trail barge, under construction at Port Houston Shipyard,will be completed on or about March 15.

Bayport Plant AnnouncedPlans for construction of a chemical plant on a lO-acre

site in lime Bayport industrial development were announcedtoday t:,v T. B. Hudson, president of Southwest Chemical andPlastics’Co. of Houston.

Southwest l,alex Corp., a subsidiary of Southwest Chemical& Plastics Co.. will own and operate the plant which will pro-duee styrene butadiene latex. Hudson said eonstruetion willbegin ill March, and the plant is scheduled to go on streamin August.

Styrene lmtadlene latex is used primarily in the productionof p~per~ textiles~ and paints. Southwest Latex is the tenthfirm to purchase a plant site in Bayport~ a project of Friends-~ood Developmcn! Co., wholly owned subsidiary of HumbleOil & Refining Co.

Tipton, located in the CottonExchange Building, services the Ve~a Line, sailing from the Gulf to NorthEurope. One of the first vessels in the service was the M. V. KLAVDIA, which
