The journey of USTC began on May 13, 1989 with the establishment of the Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) along with 42 students. It continued to function as an Institute under the University of Chittagong. The University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) was established as a full-fledged Private University soon after the Private University Act 1992 came into force when IAHS became its constituent body. The Janasheba Foundation was its sponsoring organization and National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam was appointed as the Founder Vice Chancellor of the USTC by the Chancellor of the University and the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The true growth of an economy depends on the development of a nation and its citizens as human resources and higher education plays an inevitable role in such context. In a decade, it has achieved excellence in education in different disciplines through its dynamic and effective academic leadership.  To become a center of excellence for medicine, business management, information technology, and the other related fields in the education sectors, USTC in particular have to be developed who will actively contribute to learning and creation of knowledge. All the students both national and international get benefited from the professionalism, knowledge and expertise of the faculty members and administrators of USTC.To draw more attention from the students and the society USTC accepts the transfer of credits of the equivalent courses or programs of the UGC recognized universities.

The success of an any organization depends on how it relates to its environment. In the Chittagong division, there are many private Universities, which is IIUC, Atish Dipankar University, EDU, Premier University, Port City University, UITS, Chittagong Maa O Shishu Medical College. However in the competitive position, USTC must provide the better services to the students and patients for making a profitable in long term. USTC can make a profitable organization by the Economic forces.

USTC provides the B. Pharm, MBBS & different type of MBA program (e.g. MBA Regular, MBA Executive, MBM etc.) as well as medical treatment to the patient. It has a separate boys and girls hostel.

Another university provide the same facility to the students. If USTC make a long term profit, they provide the better services to the students then others, by providing the better lecture, classroom, infrastructure facility etc. and also provide the better medical treatment to the patients.

Strong Entry Barriers:

USTC has a good brand, teachers, own campus, etc. which is the strong barrier for another new university. They provide the better service to the patient and students at the minimum cost. Making a good number of doctors, leaders , engineers USTC can take a good position in the private university.

By providing the practical knowledge of modern medical equipment, medical lab, hardware lab, classroom with modern equipment, on-line library, IT facility etc. USTC make strong barrier for new entrants.

Weak Rivalry within Markets:By making a market leader USTC must provide the difference facility to the students and patient then others.

Market rivalry is usually stronger when demand for the product is growing slowly. In the market there are lot of private university in the Chittagong. They always provided the multilevel better services then others. So, if USTC can not provide the better services then others, they lose most of the students and patients. Because quantity of students and patients are depend on the providing of quality full services.

To make a long term profit in the private university, USTC must be updated their medical facility (e.g. Modern Diagnostic, Ultrasound, MRI, PET and CT scanner, multimedia projector, digital classroom etc.)

Low Market Power of Input suppliers:

Suppliers can exert a competitive force in an industry by raising prices or reducing the quality of the goods they sell. The suppliers of USTC are the fresh students and patients. Most of the local and foreign guardian thinks that, USTC is the reputed university in the South Asia. As well as Chittagong Maa O Shishu Hospital, EDU and CBS take the attraction of foreign and local students by providing their better facility to the students.

However, for making a long term profit, USTC must providing the good quality full teachers, updating library books, infrastructure development, etc. to the students.

Page 15: How any University make profitable in Long Term

Low Market Power of Consumers: Customers represent a competitive force because they can bid down prices, demand higher quality, all at the expense of industry profitability.

USTC give the quality full services to their patient and students, so they can satisfy their demand without any complain. They provide the 24 hours services in the medical, WiFi zone, hardware, computer and medical lab. The central library of USTC is the largest library in the private university of Chittagong. They also provide Industrial and International tour to the students.

But in the FSET department there are many problem in there, which is not good for the institution. As a result power of consumers will be high, which is the barrier for USTC to make a profitable in long term.

Therefore, USTC must fulfill the students requirement for making a long term profitability.

Material or good whose use is interrelated with the use of an associated or paired good such that a demand for one (tires, for example) generates demand for the other (gasoline, for example). USTC do not provide the only MBBS, BBA, MBA, B. Phrm etc. program they also provide the complementary services, which is Japanese Language, Business Workshop, Medicine Workshop, Nursing etc.

Limited Harmful Government Intervention:

Government policy may also represent a substantial entry barrier in some industries. Government can consciously or unconsciously limit or even foreclose entry into industries, using such controls as licensing requirements.  The government of Bangladesh is very helpful for higher education. Because without education, a nation cannot grow up. USTC can support the government by the providing education. Without any government intervention, they operate their activity is easily. Most of the foreign students are study in the USTC without any government hamper.

This has been evident from the above presentation that the development of a country and its economy is dependent on the proper management of the contemporary issues and the success of such issues mostly depends on the development of well trained, educated and groomed human resources. In each of these cases higher study has been remained as a crucial factor over the years and the private university industry just like the other private initiatives of the economy is playing a major role in this context of Bangladesh. This industry is now almost in the growth stage of its life cycle. Therefore, if international standard quality education can be ensured through the analysis of the strategic issues of higher education, then the development of appropriate strategies will be possible.
