How did you attract your audience?

Title: we used red block for our titles and credits. This attracted our audience because red symbolises danger and blood which is one of the conventions of the horror genre. By symbolising blood and danger at the start of the opening sequence, audiences will be excited or rather frightened to the idea of what they are about to watch.

Music: we overlaid slow and creepy non-diegetic music to our scenes and removed the sound for almost all the scenes. This challenges the conventions as horror films often have one or more music playing through with a series of sounds from the scenes to keep the audience intrigued. However, we decided to go with this decision to give the audience a different approach to keep them interested-giving them something new. Although we removed the sound we left some of it for important scenes especially during the first jump scare in order for the audience to feel the suspense and hear the character (possessed) rushing towards them (the audience).

Characters: our target audience were people of ages 16 to about 25 or more so to attract our audience we used teenagers as our characters in order for the audience to relate to the characters. This is also the case for older audiences since almost everyone has gone through the teenage years and might relate to the inquisitive and rebellious nature that probably led the characters into the situation there are in now- this will be assumed by the older audience.

Narrative: the opening sequence attracts the audience because it is an enigma, a puzzle the audience must solve especially since they do not know why the characters are being hunted by the demon. This will make them wait to find out how and why this happens.
