How did you use media technologies in the research,

planning, construction and evaluation stages?

Page 2: How did you use media technologies in the

Research• Internet – web 2.0: (learn about conventions of drama genre and

general research through which web 2.0 helped engage with our audience effectively with our audience)

• BBC Film Network (watched short drama films relating to During the riots, which helped establish how our film would look like, and the conventional features to use, such as the lighting, sound, camera shots, etc.)

• IMDB – Trailers (Watch drama film trailers such as ‘Titanic’ to see how emotional drama films are presented)

• Rotten Tomatoes – Critic comments (learn what the audience think about particular aspects in a drama film, their expectations and dislikes, which also aided our audience research)

Page 3: How did you use media technologies in the

• You tube – (watch videos on technology used in film, how to use camera, lighting, etc which helped us prepare for filming the scenes and discover what equipments will be required)

• I phone -(portable and efficient on the go research. Excellent for emergency research)

• Survey monkey -(audience survey to find out what the audience want to view in a drama film, with questions such as what the types of openings and endings they would like to see.)

• Face book/Email - (used to shared the survey to our audience, variety of different people for feedback and ensured fast and many responses.)

Planning• Microsoft Word – (create scripts, contracts, forms and as they are

digital copies they can be sent through email instead of travelling to the receiver, and necessary editing can be done efficiently. Cannot make the film without these essential documents)

• Email – (send scripts, contracts fast, contact actors, important individuals)

• Email/Facebook – (contact actors, etc)

• Mobile Phones – (effortless way to contact required individuals, especially at times of emergencies (e.g. rescheduling) where a quick text or phone call could be made)

Construction

• Cannon Camera – (Film Scenes)

• Digital camera – (Pictures)

• Bluetooth – (send pictures to phone and iMac to upload on blog)

• Smoke machine – (to create realistic, gritty smoke coming out of the house instead of using special effects to create the smoke in Final Cut as it would eliminate the ‘realness’ of the scene)

Page 6: How did you use media technologies in the

• iMac – (Contained various programmes, and was quite slow, often freezing due to the number of items being processed at the same time)

• Final Cut – Edit film (create slow motion e.g. in the scene of Emily dying, to engage audience emotionally; fades in between scenes for fluid switching, and splits in the screen to portray a split in society and two types of action at the same time; created using the image wireframe and three images shapes and moved to meet requirements)

• Livewire – (Title (font: ‘spotlight’ worked perfectly with film as it was the colour indigo) and credits)

• Audacity – (quick and efficient software used to edit the radio trailer. Trimming helped cut out parts not required)

• Photoshop – (create the poster, with tools such as the marker in ‘line’ form to create the four splits, and the ability to import pictures from our film into the poster, as well as inserting text and changing font style and sizes to suit the film)

• Internet – (Collect sounds and Poignant music for film and radio trailer. A website used was ‘royalty free sounds’ which contained a huge variety to choose from and where nit copyrighted.)

Evaluation• Blogspot – (Uploaded podcasts (using ‘sound cloud’), video clips,

presentations (through ‘Slideshare’), images, etc which helped convey my information in a variety of effective ways, choosing the appropriate form for the information, such as sound clips for discussions instead of an essay)

• PowerPoint – (Can put in images, videos, texts and sound all in one (Used to exhibit the results from audience survey to display graphs and charts)

• Mp3 player, Mobile Phone voice recorder - (To record discussions, feedback, etc such as the discussion regarding conventions in the film)

Page 8: How did you use media technologies in the

• Cannon Camera – (Video clips to present information directly and physically such as the audience reaction to the film)

• Camera Phone (For on the spur pictures and videos)

• Film posted on You tube – (To gain feedback)

• Film emailed to audience - (To gain feedback)
