how do enzymes work? guided worksheet
DESCRIPTION
Resources to answer the question, How do enzymes work?TRANSCRIPT
10th Grade, IB Biology
Year 10 Pre-Diploma Biology
ENZYMES THE WAY THEY WORKEnzymes are hugely important in life. Any biological reaction requires a catalyst - an enzyme. All enzymes are proteins and their specific shape is what enables them to function as they do. One effect of cystic fibrosis is the failure of the digestive enzymes released from the pancreas. Now is the time to learn something more about enzymes. Later we will do investigations into the properties of enzymes. First we must understand how enzymes function. The resources for this work include:1. Pages 69 and 70 from the SNAB text book, Advanced Biology, Chapter 2.3: How does CF affect other body systems?2. A sheet: The properties of enzymes3. Information sheet: How enzymes probably work
4. Question 7: The 3-D Structure of LysozymeDuring Period 1 & 2 Monday 1st June:
1 Read and do your best to understand Pages 69 & 70 from the text book. The most important part of this now is on Page 70: Key Biological Principle: Enzyme function depends on protein three-dimensional structure.2 Look at the work sheet The properties of enzymes and make sure that these properties are understood. You should be able to answer the question Why? to each of the properties.
3 Complete Question 7 as a Word file and save it on your own Blog. Most of the answers to this question depend upon your understanding of what you have read before (1 and 2). Submit to me the link to the worksheet on your BlogEnjoy!
