How do I Create an Exam from
a Document (Word/Notepad)
IMPORTANT: Here is some important infor-mation you must follow A) If you have your exam as a Word document you will have to Copy/Paste your exam into Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac) NOTE: Copying/pasting directly from a Word document into Canvas will create different fonts in the exam. To avoid this you have to use Note-pad or TextEdit
B) To open Notepad on your PC go to: 1) Accessories-Notepad or for a Mac Applications-TextEdit 2) Paste your exam into Notepad/TextEdit 3) Save your new document Continue to the next page and follow instruc-tions in how to add your exam to Canvas

1) Open your course then go to Quizzes
2) Click “Create a New
Quiz”
3) Type the name of the Quiz 4) Select Graded Quiz for Quiz Type 5) Select Quizzes for Assignment Group 6) Select settings for the Quiz 7) Select Restrict this Quiz to get more options if you want to add a password or use lock-down browser

9) Click on the calen-dar icon to select the dates that you want the exam to be avail-able to students. 10) Click Done to apply the dates

Question” to start adding questions
13) Open drop-down menu to select the type of question that you want to add

ble answers from your Notepad Document
17) Use green arrow to
select correct answer. 18) Click this to add more

21) Check box to view your question and possible an-swers 22) Click on the pencil icon if you want to edit the ques-tion 23) Click “New Question” to add another question and repeat the same pro-cess from steps 13 through 20 24) Click Save when you are done adding all your questions

25) After adding the questions and settings of your exam you will need to Publish the quiz to make it available to students
Click the Publish button
26) The Quiz is now un-der the Quizzes section and linked to the Grade Center 27) Click the pencil icon to edit if needed You are Done!
