Representation of a therapist

Therapists are many portrayed as professional, academic, modest and helpful. We represented the therapist in our opening thriller as professional, and this is shown through codes of clothing/gesture.

Similar to the therapist represented in Gothika, we chose our therapists codes of clothing carefully, a black modest blazer and a skirt indicates professionalism.

Pen and paper, normally used by professional therapists.

Representation of teenage girlsThe general representations of teenagers in the media are of them being aggressive, depressed, disobedient and promiscuous. We implemented a few of these representations within our production. We represented Sabrina our main character as depressed and isolated, and this is shown through camera angles. The mid-shot allows Sabrina expression to be identified, and therefore demonstrating her as anxious and depressed, which is a common representation of teenagers in the media.

This is used in thriller I Am Number Four and Skins which both represent teenagers as troubled.

Representation of criminalsOur representation of criminals is unconventional, this is mainly due to the age criminals are normally represented as an older character, but due to our target audience research we decided to create a criminal who is younger.

Max Cady in Cape Fear – older experienced character.

In comparison to Sabrina – 18 year old teenager.
