How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Starting with the bands in which I included to mention on my contents page,Swim Deep, Foals, Arctic Monkeys, Peace, Haim and The 1975 are all real, indie bands. The 1975 being indie rock, Haim being indie pop.I chose to mention all of these because they are indie bands whose members are all between 18 and 30, so the same age as my target audience.This is the same for my chosen models to pose as artists for my magazine, they both 17 and 18, so they are around the age of my target audience, so they are representative of the audience, they are likely to attract them if they are relatable or alike to my audience.

All of the clothing that is visible to my audience is pristine looking, none of it is extravagant. Therefore, it is attractive to trendies because the colours of the clothing shown are monochrome, black and white. They like this because it looks smart, and often expensive and clean looking. If accessories were involved, it may be more representative of Indies (denim jackets.) However trendies are more simplistic.

Alex (Dean) has naturally blonde hair, but it is the way he styles and has it cut that is indie. It is shorter at the sides with a long swept over fringe. This is a common haircut amongst indies. Matt Healy has an extreme version of this haircut, with very short sides and a longer fringe on top.

My cover and contents represent Trendies a lot due to the fact they are both simplistic. The colour scheme is bold fonts, red, black and white.

Zooey Deschanel is a famous actress who is therefore in the public eye, like my cover artist would be as she is part of a fictitious (yet famous) band. Zooey has an indie look as she has dark hair styled with layers, with pretty and obvious features, like her eyes for example. I believe that my cover artist is a good comparison to her and therefore represents Indie groups. Their style is more alike, rather than their actual appearance, both having blue eyes also.

These are my models, Scarlett and Dean. Their real names being Evie, aged 17, and Alex, aged 18.Serious expressions for an edgy / indie look as opposed to a cheesy and smiley, pop look. My cover artist, Evie has a nose ring which is very often associated with being indie or having that look. Alexs plain clothing works well with the theme because other artists as Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend have been photographed dressed in clothes like this. The same with Matt Healy, who was once also featured on the cover of an issue of Clash magazine, one of my inspirations.

Here, you can see my model artists festival band and my audience is a group that enjoys festivals. This is good because the readers may be interested to discover which festivals that our artist has attended or played at. So this links well to my audience and context, the interview with Dean.Also, my model Evies top is also plain so it works well with Alexs plain top, nobody steals any more attention than the other.If given a chance to take my photographs again, I would have added a jacket too. A denim one on Alex would add to the indie theme. My models create an indie look together because they both look smart and professional, due to adapting to their roles as serious artists well. Matt Healys expression is serious in Clash too, like theirs.
