HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA REPRESENT

PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Page 2: How does your media represent particular social groups

•My music magazine is targeted at young teens and adults and it is representing social groups between the ages of 15-20s. I will do so by looking at the different aspect of mise en scene for instance: costume, facial expression, lighting etc… and I will also be looking at camera angels and shots.

How is the artist on the cover page represented?

• The model for my front cover was aged 17 at the time. Looking at mise-en-scene he is dress appropriately for his age and he is wearing something similar to them. I have also used some props for instance the guitar. A lot of young teens and adults are now able to play musical instruments especially the guitar.

• Looking at costume like the one on the right of artic monkeys you can see them posing for the photo shoot. They are dressed very simple like many indie and rock artist do. Through research I have dressed my model simple but still stylish. Though the use of costumes I have represented young teens differently to normal stereotypical conventions. As you can see there is a contrast in what he is wearing and the background. The background looks smart and sophisticated yet he doesn’t look out of place wearing something casual.

• Although he is young I am trying to portray that young teens like himself aren’t like how everyone think they are. Teens are represented to be rude, loud, confident and many more stereotypes. My model is facing the camera looking back at it, direct address, this is to show the confidence they have and determination.

• The contents page isn’t too complicated and very simple. The photos that I’ve used are young teens/adults. In the first image, she looks smart the way is she dressed. She is wearing a beanie hat which is a popular fashion trend among the younger generations. I have used a mix of colours for my contents page. I use red because it was the winter special edition and red represents Christmas and love. Also for the younger generation red has a representation of loves and danger. This could be reflecting on how this social group act and their emotion.
