In order to ensure that your rental in Gauteng is hassle-free, please familiarise yourself with the following: To facilitate a smoother rental experience, we’ve equipped all of our vehicles with the necessary e-tags in order to comply with Gauteng’s e-tolling legislation. When renting a car: 1. Always check that there’s an e-tag device attached behind the rear-view mirror. 2. When passing through the gantry, the e-tag device beeps, which indicates that it’s operational. Should the unit not beep when passing through a gantry, it must be reported to Europcar immediately, to en- sure that a replacement device is arranged for the vehicle. Removing or swapping of Europcar’s e-tag devices: 1. The vehicle registration and e-tag device is registered as one unit, which means that private e-tag devices may not be used in Europcar’s vehicles. 2. Europcar’s e-tag devices must not be removed. If removed or lost, a replacement cost of R1000 will be levied. Billing information for car and van rental: 1. The standard tariffs will be charged. As per the govern- ment gazette. 2. Europcar will apply a R450 cap to the e-toll charge per rental agreement in line with the SANRAL concession. 3. Invoices can only be issued 24 hours after rental return in order to reflect the e-toll charges incurred. The release of credit or debit card deposits may therefore be delayed by a further 24 hours. 4. Possible delays in e-tolling information from SANRAL could result in charges being billed up to 45 days post-rental, if incurred. 5. Refundable rental deposits have increased by R450 to allow for the billing of e-tolls. 6. Invoices will reflect the total e-toll fees incurred, as a single line item. Where e-tags can be used: 1. The e-tags in our fleet are solely for use within the GORT (Gauteng Open Road Tolling) network. 2. Our tags do not work on any other boomed toll gantries and you will be required to make payment immediately (i.e Bakwena). E-tolling and Chauffeur Service: 1. Due to the very nature of the service, all drives within Gauteng will be levied with an e-toll surcharge. By accepting Europcar’s Terms and Conditions and driving a vehicle with an e-tag you accept SANRAL’s e-tag Terms and Conditions.
