Links between my three products• Between my main product and the two ancillary products, there are

several presentational aspects that connect them. The first example is the colour red. I chose this colour as it has connotations of energy and power, which are both aspects of the two bands that I focused on in my production. The colour appeared in the title of the production on the poster, the title of the review and in several areas throughout my documentary, for example as the underlining of the views on a YouTube video.

• As well as this, and in some ways connected to this, I used my own font for titles in my ancillary projects and for text in my documentary. This was also often red within the ancillary products. The font looked as if it has been written with a paintbrush, giving connotations of a DIY-style production, which both of my bands had within the documentary. This appealed to my target audience as they already had involvements in the genre of music, meaning that this style was very familiar to them.

• I also used very similar imagery in all three of my productions. I wanted the productions as a whole to be very energetic and immersive so that my audience could truly understand the people in the documentary. Because of this, I used a lot of imagery from shows that the bands played and got shots of the crowds listening to this music. Luckily, the crowds were also very energetic, adding further to this effect. This is why the main image of both my poster and review are of bands playing to crowds of people, and lots of footage of the bands playing are in the documentary.

Where would my product appear institutionally?• Throughout the planning process, I focused deeply on how the

production would appear in the ‘real world’, looking into a channel that would air the documentary and the types of magazines that may include my poster and review.

Magazines• As my production is of a niche subject, it is likely to appear in a

niche magazine. One of these magazine that I looked at was Sight & Sound, which often focused heavily on niche documentaries in its editions. Being a music documentary, there is also a chance that it may appear in music magazines such as Kerrang or NME.

Broadcasting• As I have researched in my planning stage, my production would

be broadcasted on Channel 4 due to their views regarding niche subject documentaries. Channel 4 air a series of short documentaries known as ‘Three Minute Wonders‘ which I followed closely in my own short documentary. Refer to 3 Minute Wonders The time at which my production could be broadcasted is debatable, as there is no violence or bad language within the production except for one scene. In the interview with Anthony Hopkins he is wearing a t-shirt which reads ‘Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?’, which would be inappropriate to show before the watershed. However, this could be censored or the footage could be slightly scaled in so only his head was visible, allowing for the production to be shown before 9pm.

What links my three products to the same audience?• I have several reoccurring themes across my products that

would appeal to the same target audience. For example, my use of Leicester iconography runs throughout my three products, in the documentary I used montage of Leicester, in the review I used an image of the clock tower and on my poster I used the slogan ‘First stop Leicester, next stop…’. This is a strong link between my three productions but in actuality could have been less strong. My target audience is already very niche and having these quite strong links to Leicester begins to force my audience to have a previous knowledge of Leicester and its music scene.

• I also used iconography of live music in my products. In the documentary I had montage footage of both Neck Deep and Flip Like Wilson playing shows, in my review I had shots from these shows and in the poster there is another shot from Neck Deep’s show. As the genre of music I was looking at is fairly niche, I wanted to make use of that and include the audience in my narrative a bit more. I wanted to highlight the audience’s support as being important to bands but failed to do so to the extent I would have liked.
