HOW FINANCE APPRENTICESHIPS CAN BOOST YOUR BUSINESS

Add talent to your team through a market leading training programme that’s simpler and more affordable than you think accaglobal.com/apprenticeships

Adding value through an ACCA apprenticeshipAs the world’s most forward-thinking professional accountancy body with more than 233,000 members, and 536,00 students in 178 countries, we know what skills, knowledge and behaviours your professionals need for the future. Equipping your people with a globally-recognised qualification and the financial skills, business expertise and ambitious mindset you need – ACCA finance apprenticeships benefit employers of all shapes, sizes and sectors.

Our programmes are supported by government funding and offer the chance to develop in-house expertise that’s fit for the future. Flexible enough to suit your business, they can even help to increase diversity, as you can develop current employees or attract fresh talent through training that’s second to none. Sustainability is also fully integrated in our qualification, preparing future generation of accountants to recognise the challenges and address the impact in organisations.

An overview of what’s available Our apprenticeships develop future-ready accountants with the digital skills, business acumen, ethical integrity and emotional intelligence to become trusted advisors and add immediate value to your business. They combine on-the-job learning in your organisation with off-the-job technical learning with a training provider who’ll also conduct regular reviews with your apprentice to keep them on track for success. The way in which our apprenticeships are delivered differ slightly depending on whether you’re in England, Scotland or Wales, and on how much experience your apprentice has already.

Apprenticeships in Scotland and WalesThe two apprenticeship programmes we offer in Scotland are the Modern Apprenticeship and the Graduate Apprenticeship. The Modern Apprenticeship is broken down into Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels 5-8 and your apprentice will combine technical learning with work-based experience, which will all be recorded and evidenced to show how their skills are developing. Two versions of the Graduate Apprenticeship are available, one through Robert Gordon University and the other through Glasgow Caledonian University.

Visit www.accaglobal.com/scotlandapp for more information.

Our apprenticeship in Wales are offered at Level 4. This is aligned to the first part of the ACCA qualification and provides the finance and accounting knowledge to help your employees flourish as an accounting technician before progressing onto the full qualification. Visit www.accaglobal.com/walesapp for more information about apprenticeships in Wales.

ONWARD PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Generous incentives and fundingACCA apprenticeships cost less than you’d think. The main costs for employers are tuition, exam and registration fees. Government funding to pay your training provider for tuition costs is available for all employers, regardless of size or location – although the specific amounts and methods of accessing funding and incentives vary. ACCA and your chosen training provider will help you to secure the funding you’re entitled to.

If you are in England, the amount you get depends on whether you pay the apprenticeship levy or not.

Levy payersYou pay the levy if you’re an employer with a pay bill over £3 million each year. Your apprenticeship levy contributions are held in a fund that you can use to pay for apprenticeship training. All levy payments are shared in the form of vouchers to be put towards tuition and training. If you don’t have enough funds to cover the cost of training for all your apprentices, you just pay 5% of the outstanding balance and the government will pay the rest – up to the funding band maximum (currently £8,000 for Level 4 and £21,000 for Level 7).

Non-levy payersIf you don’t pay the levy, you pay just 5% towards the cost and the government pays the rest, up to the funding band maximum. If you employ fewer than 50 employees, additional funding means the government could pay 100% of your apprenticeship training costs.

The funding rules in Scotland and Wales are slightly different. Visit www.accaglobal.com/fundingapp for more information about funding apprenticeships in Scotland and Wales.

Other costsThe main outlay by you is the cost of employing someone, as apprentices receive the same benefits as any other employee. And while there is funding available for tuition, exam and registration fees aren’t covered. These are subject to occasional change and are currently:

Ongoing support when you need itTraining an apprentice will reap invaluable rewards for you, but that doesn’t mean it has to be complicated. We’re experts at what we do and only work with highly experienced training providers who we trust to support you. Their main role is to deliver the technical knowledge and skills your apprentice can’t develop in their job alone. Your training provider and your dedicated team at ACCA will give you all the help you need to access funding, monitor your apprentice’s progress, apply for exams and awards, and offer further development – if that’s what you want. We’re partners. And here to make everything simple.

What happens next… The first thing is to have a chat with us. Once we understand your business needs, we can help you choose an apprenticeship, a training provider and whether to train a current employee or someone new. From there, your training provider and our team can help with funding, recruitment (if needed), and training planning. It’s an exciting journey and we’ll be there every step of the way.
