How I got a 780 GMAT Score

Part 1: CONDITIONING

Conditioning?

www.colormeone.com

“A behavioural process whereby a response becomes more frequent or more predictable in a given environment as a result of reinforcement” - Encyclopedia Britannica

In other words, training your body/mind to have more control over how it responds/behaves in a specific situation

Page 3: How i got 780 in gmat

And how is this relevant to GMAT?

www.colormeone.com

Because, just like you need months (years) of training before being able to fight 12 rounds in a boxing match…..

you also need to train your body so that it can maintain peak concentration levels for 4 hours in a GMAT match!

How?

www.colormeone.com

In the following slides, I will be detailing how I went about preparing for THE day…you would obviously need to customize these tips as per your specific situation

Scheduling your appointment (date)

www.colormeone.com

For ideal conditioning, you would need at least 3 weeks before the test: where you can take out ‘uninterrupted’ 4 hours at a stretch

3 weeks is NOT the total preparation time, this is specifically the final stage of your efforts where you bring your body & mind to peak form

What is this imaginary creature called

‘uninterrupted’ time?

www.colormeone.com

This is a time during which you can simulate test conditions as closely as possible:

• Continuous 4 hours at a stretch (not 2 hrs now & 2 later)• No phone/email/internet/calculator• No roaming around for ‘fresh air’ or snacks except for the 2 X 10 minute breaks• No multitasking & No (minimal) disturbance in the room• Prepared with practice tests or enough questions to last the test duration

Scheduling your appointment (date)

www.colormeone.com

• You don’t need 3 weeks leave from office, but you do need a lighter work load & a 4 hour time slot (ideally each day/same time) where you are not disturbed • Plan your work/life commitments before fixing the test date• A lot of test takers will have busy schedules; make sure that you take note of any business travel, project delivery, weddings etc before fixing the date• If you can, do ask your colleagues (or maybe even your boss) for help

Scheduling your appointment (time)

www.colormeone.com

• If you plan on taking the practice tests from 09:00 to 13:00 hrs during the next 3 weeks, then schedule your GMAT at the same time. The key is that you should first understand what is the time slot that you can commit each day, and only then fix the test time – NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

• Are you a morning person? Get bored/tired etc as the day progresses? Or are you the kind who can never wake up in the morning? Along with the above, also pay attention to what comes naturally to your body. Build on your strengths…it is a long test.

AWA section

www.colormeone.com

While we are not getting into specific preparation tips for individual sections. A small word about the AWA section….

• It might seem a bit of an overkill, if you write two essays every time you take any practice test. However, writing continuously for an hour on the test day WILL sap away your energy & you need to be prepared.

• Try completing the AWA section fully at least 2 times per week.

• Form a structure on how you will write both the essays, irrespective of the topic & keep it as simple as possible.

Diet

www.colormeone.com

As always, this is not only about the test day; this is for the full conditioning phase. You really do not want all your body’s energy spent in digesting the food, invariably leading to loss of alertness etc

• No junk food• No roadside eatery• Nothing that makes you drowsy• Eat clean & drink plenty of water• Fruits are good; natural detox & lighter on your system

The Key = Eat light, stay hydrated

Diet (Break Time)

www.colormeone.com

Just like in between boxing rounds, the 2 breaks in the GMAT are a great opportunity to take in quick energy boosts…I used Red Bull & a chocolate bar in the two breaks, you obviously can choose your own.

• Make sure that you have already tested how your body reacts to any quick shot, you don’t want any surprises on the test day

• Do not plan on eating something that takes 5 minutes to unwrap- 10 minutes to chew. You need a quick-effective snack.

This & that…..

www.colormeone.com

• Light/relaxed clothing; take a jacket in case you happen to sit on a chair that has a love affair with the room AC• Always check the test center a day before; know if it has a dedicated parking, the best way to commute etc• GMAC tells you about the resolution for computers at the test center; adjust your own computer to the same for the practice tests• Practice while wearing ear plugs; your neighbor-test taker might like to type with such ferocity so as to put a drummer to shame.

That is it……

www.colormeone.com

Most of this is common sense, however the point of this presentation is not to release a ground breaking invention. The objective is to remind you that these small actions might add up to your preparation and increase your score by 20 to 30 points.

Feel free to disagree with someor all, and GOOD LUCK!!!!!
