Conforming, challenging and

developing conventions for

my ancillary texts

Page 2: How I used/challenged conventions in my ancillary texts

Planning and Research• In my initial planning and research, I looked into

existing CD covers that were popular, and I also

looked into existing magazine adverts

• One convention I found of these was that they

have the album name, band name and, on the

magazine advert, they had the date of release

• The business of the magazine advert I found tended

to depend on the genre of the magazine

• For example, rock albums like Green Day, used a

dark colour scheme, yet still had quite a lot of text

on the front

• However, when I looked into the indie rock genre

for magazine adverts and CD covers, they tended

to be a lot more simple

• Here is the Arctic Monkey’s AM advert and CD

cover

• I liked the simplicity of this design and

Wanted to use this type of design for my advert,

So this is a convention of indie rock adverts and cd

covers that I decided to conform to

• By conforming to this convention it meant

challenging the convention of magazine adverts

and CD/DVD covers from other genres

• However, I wanted to keep my design simple as I

thought this would be more effective to attract my

audience to my product.
