HOW MRS FOX MARRIED AGAIN

There was once an old fox with nine tails who pretended to be dead because he wanted to prove his wife's love.

Mrs. Fox was very sad and retired to her room and locked herself in.

Her maid, the cat, stayed by the kitchen fire and attended to the cooking.

When people knew the old fox was dead, some suitors came forward. A young fox came to visit.

What is she doing, Miss Cat?Is she sleeping, or waking, or what is she at?

She is sitting upstairs in her grief, From her sorrow she gets no relief.""Tell her a fox is here to woo her.He said

Up went the cat. She knocked at the door, Mrs. Fox, are you there? Yes, yes, my dear!

Theres a suitor below, Shall I tell him to go? But does he have nine beautiful tails, like dear Mr. Fox?

Oh no, answered the cat; he has only one. Then I wont have him, said Mrs. Fox.

So the cat went downstairs, and sent the suitor away.

Seven more foxes came to woo but they didn't have enough tails so they were all dismissed,

until one came with nine tails like old Mr. Fox. When the widow heard that a suitor with nine tails was at home,

she cried full of joy to the cat: Now, open the door and the window wide, and turn old Mr. Fox outside.

But before they could do so, up jumped old Mr. Fox from under a bench, and threw everybody out of the house.

Mrs. Fox married the new Mr. Fox with nine tails and they lived happily ever after.

Old Mr. Fox lived alone for the rest of his life.
