How Much Does the Bible Mention Money?

• According to Larry Burkett there are over 1600 verses in the Bible on money.

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Psalm 50:10-12

for every animal of the forest is mine,    and the cattle on a thousand hills.  I know every bird in the mountains,    and the insects in the fields are mine.  If I were hungry I would not tell you,    for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

Malachi 3:10

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Money – Now What?

According to Dave Ramsey there are 3 things we can do with money:

SPEND

SAVE/INVEST

GIVE

3 Things to do with Money

• Spend– Spending your money tends to tell WHAT you

value your money.

• Save/Invest– Saving and investing your money tends to tell

HOW you value money.

• Giving– Giving your money tends to tell WHO you

value regarding money.

GIVING

• Malachi says give a tithe and offering• Tithe is to be the minimum

– 2 Corinthians 8:7 … “see that you excel in the gift of giving.”

• Is the tithe only Old Testament? – Hebrews 7:1-2 – Pre Law

• God wants us to give for OURSELVES nor for HIM. He doesn’t NEED our money to accomplish His will, but he needs US.

What If?• 31 give nothing

– 31X $100 per month = $3,100.00 – $3,100.00 X 12 = $37,200.00

• Let’s get crazy!– 105 (Family Units)– $45,000 x .10 = $4,500.00 per year per family– $4,500 x 105 = $472,500.00

• What if we gave more?• What if we made more?• What if we just upped our giving? What could

be accomplished? • What about our offerings?• What if?
