Future Prospects There’s a full complement of fixtures in the Premier Division this weekend and some intriguing looking contests on the cards. LOCK LANE seem to be enjoying life in the top-flight and will fancy their chanc-es of claiming a fourth win of the sea-son when they face YORK ACORN. The sides met last weekend in a game which the Castleford side ran out 28-10 winners and head coach Martin Rowse will be looking for his side to continue their form with a quick-fire league dou-ble. Leaders EGREMONT RANGERS face EAST HULL for the second time in a week and will be on the lookout for re-venge when they two sides meet at Gillfoot Park. Easts sent Egremont spinning to their first defeat of 2013 last week and a success on the road this time would see them enhance their play-off hopes and send a real message to the rest of the division. WEST HULL are another side from east Yorkshire on their travels as they head over the Pennines to Wigan where INCE ROSE BRIDGE will be waiting. Both sides have picked up just a single win from their opening fixtures and will be keen to collect two points this week-end. The hosts seem to be having problems defensively this season – they have conceded a half-century twice already – and the visitors will look to take advantage. MYTON WARRIORS continue their search for their first points with a home game against LEIGH MINERS

RANGERS. Last year’s Grand Final runners-up have tasted defeat in their opening two games and head coach Tony Spence will be looking to get up and running as soon as possible. Leigh return to league action after exit-ing the Tetley’s Challenge Cup at the round three stage but can now fully focus on their league commitments. SIDDAL are another side returning to league action and face a tough assign-ment with a game against HULL DOCKERS. The Dockers have made a great start to the season with wins over Myton Warriors, Lock Lane and East Hull, but a win at Chevinedge would put down a real marker. THATTO HEATH CRUSADERS are another side on the road as they head to Hull to take on SKIRLAUGH. The hosts are pointless so far and face a Thatto side with a 100% record from their opening three games. WIGAN ST PATRICKS and WATH BROW HORNETS are two more sides who meet for the second time in seven days. The champions will be looking to repeat their 20-6 success, whilst the hosts will be aiming for win number three of the campaign. Welcome

Mick Lumby Chairman

Welcome to all, for this afternoons encounter especially those that have travelled from today’s opponents, Lock Lane, who will be looking to do the double over us within just over a week following our away defeat to them last weekend. It’s been a difficult start to the season and our first half performance was much the same as our previous league games this season where again we have been slow to get into the game which has allowed our opponents to get a firm foothold on the contest. Second half performance again was pleasing as again we fought hard to get back into the contest and did show glimpses of how we can play but we must cut out the unforced errors and unnecessary needless penalties given to the opposition once we can clear up that area I am sure we can start to win matches.

With the injuries and unavailability of some senior player from both teams last weekend, I would like to heap praise on the younger players who, with limited experience at this level, acquitted themselves really well for both sides and hopefully they will continue to develop and improve their game at this level. Praise also for our A team who again came out of another close contest by winning at Normanton and hopefully their early season form will continue as they travel to Milford for today’s encounter. Finally a big thanks goes to Paddy Handley who has worked along our Rugby committee by helping them secure a mini-bus which we help the burden of travelling cost that every club endures each season.

Under 15’s Acorn 38 Yorkshire Coast 14 York Acorn U15 beat Yorkshire Titans 38 – 14 at Thanet Road on Sunday 7th April 2013. Acorn started brightly and on the 10th minute through good ball work saw Jack Innes go in under the posts. Acorn continued to press and in the 16th minute Bradley Winter crossed over the line for Acorns second Try. More pressure from Acorn put Grant Bracewell over in the corner. All 3 con-verted by Matt Chiltton. Titans hit back with a Try just before half time. After the break, Matt Chiltton danced his way through 5 defenders to score a super solo Try.

Handling errors on Acorns part saw Titans pull two tries back. But some slick ball play put Jack Innes over again for his second Try of the match. Acorn finished of the match with 2 good solo efforts by Connor Wade and Bradley Winter to make it 38 – 14 to Acorn. For his consistent Effort and strong aggressive tackling throughout saw man of the match being given to Cain Horseman

Coaches Comments Welcome down to Thanet Road this afternoon for today's quick fixture reversal against Lock Lane, although going down last week we took plenty of positives from the game as we played for the full 80 minutes and finished the game strongly.

We need to eliminate some of the individual errors that are costing us at important times in matches if we can do this then that first win is not far away.

Some of the players are on big learning curves in this division and whilst disappointing it is not to be further up the league ladder, we have to look at the bigger picture and with half our team under 21 we should not allow a few results cloud what is a promising future for us.

I am expecting another tough encounter this week and hoping that we can get our first points on the board, in what promises to be an exciting encounter.

Cas Lack Lane A team called Lock Lane Britannia first operated in 1932 out of the pub near to the Griffin but an organised side was originally formed around 1938, the club was then disbanded during the war years, but was reformed again in 1947, quickly becoming established as part of the community but also one of the coun-try's most respected amateur sides. The loss of their famous ground The Sandy Desert led to a nomadic existence around Castleford. The 1980’s saw Lock Lane continue to flourish, winning the Yorkshire Cup in 1982 and reaching the National Cup Finals in 1981 and 1983. Having secured the Sandy Desert once again and the acquisition of the Bath Inn - soon to become the famous or infamous “Early Bath” - In 1998 opened the excellent Sports & Leisure Club, which has given the club

one of the finest facilities in the ama-teur game, as well as being the envy of many professional clubs. Lock Lane have produced a host of top class players from their junior and youth ranks: Paul Broadbent (Sheffield Eagles, Halifax, Hull FC), Paul Anderson (Bradford Bulls, St. Helens), Grant An-derson (Castleford), Chris Bibb (Featherstone) and more recently Eng-land International and Hull FC Captain Gareth Ellis to name but a few. Lock Lane Junior Section reformed in 1996 and after a couple of seasons without Junior sides, now boasts ten junior & youth teams from U8’s to U17’s. Lock Lane was the first club in the region and one of the first in the country to be awarded the prestigious CLUBMARK GOLD Award.

Lock Lane 28-10 York Acorn By Andy Grant | Monday 8th April 2013

Acorn were left searching for their first league win of the season after suffering defeat at Lock Lane. In the match for long periods some indiscipline and individual errors ultimately cost the blue and Golds the match. Lock Lane opened the scoring on 6 minutes when full back Adam Garlick went over on the overlap, scrum half Danny Rowse converted a good goal. Acorn hit back on 12 minutes when Matthew Woods carried four defenders over the line wide out. The visitors though failed to re-gather the kick from the restart and from the scrum centre Tom Wood crossed for a good try. On 21 minutes again from a penalty second row Karl Robinson caught the Acorn defence napping for another score, Rowse goaled for a 12 point lead at half time. The home side effectively sealed the match on 55 minutes when winger James Cryer intercepted an Ash Robson pass to score from 50 yards, Rowse goaled the try. Acorn continued to give loads of effort and this was rewarded when Matthew Woods scored on 63 minutes after an excellent flowing move, Antony Chilton converted. Lock Lane had the last day when Garlick was on the end of short passing movement and with the Rowse conversion that rounded off the scoring. Adam Endersby took the man of the match award for an outstanding performance closely followed by Matthew Woods and Joe Budd and Kevin Brayshaw.

Pack boosts as York Acorn eye revenge over Lock Lane. 11th Apr in Rugby League from The Press YORK Acorn ARLC are hoping the return of Davey Burns and the arrival of a Jamaican international back from rugby union’s IRB Tokyo 7s will help the club gain quick revenge against Lock Lane and get off the mark in the National Conference League. Scott Rhodes’ men are to yet to win in four premier division games this term, their latest defeat coming at the Castleford club last Saturday. Rhodes is “more than confident” his men can reverse that 28-10 scoreline on home turf, boosted by former York City Knights player Burns and fellow forward Tyrone Rowe. The latter, a former Coventry Bears star, has returned to England after his trip to Japan. He made his bow with the Thanet Road club in the friendly against Myton before his excursion to the Far East with Jamaica. Said Rhodes: “He takes some stopping and he’s got a bit of experience. Him and Davey will have that bit of power up front that we’ve been lacking. “Last week we played well again for long periods but our skills and final ball let us down a bit. Sometimes we go two on one with the full-back and we make an error. If we cut that out I’m more than confident we can start picking up wins. “Lock Lane are a very good team,

which is why they’re lying third. They’ve got some good players including a few out of Cas Tigers’ academy. It will be tough.” Rhodes is also hopeful Danny Liddell will be back with the club soon after returning from Dubai, bringing more experience to go with the youth in the ranks – for which he had high praise. He had four under-18s in his team last week – Ash Robson, Joel Johnson and debutants Harry Bromwich and Richard Ashton – and said: “Joel has played every game for us. They’re doing really well – I can’t ask for more.”

The Blue and Gold’s in Action 2nd Team Normanton 38-40 Acorn By Darren Wint | Monday 8th April 2013

Acorn snatched a 26-22 Yorkshire Men’s League Forty20 Cup win over Normanton Knights. The two sides traded tries at Thanet Road before the Blue and Golds conjured a winning try with two minutes remaining. Normanton took the lead early in the first half, but two tries in quick succession from Damien Hilton and Luke Swales, with Thomas Mackley converting the second, saw Acorn lead 10-4. A converted try by Normanton levelled the scores but, two minutes before half-time, Josh Thompson scored a fantastic try on the left. Straight after the break, Acorn scored again with Eddy Clapham going over for his first try of the season. A converted Normanton score pulled it back to 18-16 and Acorn then suffered a double blow as Thompson had a try ruled out and was sin-binned for his protests. The Knights took advantage with a converted try to edge ahead for the first time at 22-18. Acorn dug deep and prop Josh Mortimer drove over for a try to tie the scores. With two minutes remaining, a brilliant move involving Carl Loft and man of the match Mike Embleton put Mortimer over the line for the winning score. Thomas Mackley, Adam Speck and Luke Swales, on his open age debut, also impressed for Acorn.
