WORKPLACE CHARGING IMPACT - explained in these slides: According  to  the  US  Department  of  Transporta6on,  Bureau  of  Transporta6on  (2014)

1.  Since  78%  of  commuters  drive  20  miles  or  less  to  work,  replenishing  this  amount  of  electricity  is  consistent  and  equals  the  cost  of  a  cup  of  coffee  in  the  break-‐room.

2.  This  means  that  companies  don't  need  to  install  $5000,  higher  powered,  faster,  communicaHng,  chargers.  Many  willing  companies  are  geJng  discouraged  by  these  industry  pracHces  and  prices.  Simple  level  1  chargers  or  the  lower  powered  Level  2,  like  the  Telefonix  PowerPostEVSE  product  line,  is  a  simple,  safe  and  pracHcal  soluHon.

WORKPLACE CHARGING REALITY

“An  analysis  by  Plug  In  America  suggests  that  the  least  expensive  Level  1  chargers  are  the  best  use  of  company  resources,  because  most  employees  won’t  be  moving  their  cars  during  the  normal  work  day  and  a  Level  1  charger  can  replenish  most  if  not  all  EV  baTeries  in  that  Hme.  An  addiHonal  consideraHon  is  that  if  each  EV  has  its  own  Level  1  unit,  employees  will  not  need  to  leave  their  work  place  to  move  their  car  during  the  day.    Level  2  chargers  are  roughly  twice  as  fast  as  Level  1  equipment,  but  that  extra  speed  may  be  unnecessary  during  a  typical  workday”...

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  •  A  typical  U.S.  electricity  cost  is  $0.10/kWh.  •  The  Nissan  Leaf  goes  about  80  miles  with  a  24  kWh  baTery.      •  Therefore,  20  miles  uses  about  6  kWh.  •  The  energy  cost  to  recoup  20  miles  is  about  60  cents:                          6  kWh  x  $0.10/kWh  =  $0.60

TAKE ACTION

More functionality built in to an EVSE adds costs – both up front and ongoing that are difficult to recover Credit Card Readers and Network Connections Adds more than $800 per unit, as well as fees and contracts The single most common cause of EVSE outages Integrated Electricity Metering Energy metering can be easily accomplished outside of the EVSE for a fraction of the cost. Peek demand charges are minimized with Level 1, and 14 Amp Level 2. Expected vs. Actual electricity costs can be determined to reset employee rates if needed

KEEP IT SIMPLE – Don’t scare away employers with “Data Anxiety” ELECTRIC VEHICLES & EQUIPMENT

TAKE ACTION

It is less expensive to provide free EV charging with TWO L1 PowerPost EV Chargers than to charge users for electricity with ONE networked Level 2 EVSE.

PAYMENTS FOR CHARGING ELECTRIC VEHICLES &

TCO in both cases do not include installation cost which varies greatly (site specific)

Based on rates from the leading supplier of networked EV charging stations

$10,993

$5,628

Cost of EV Charging Over 7 Years

Networked with payment

Non-networked (free)

LEVEL 2

LEVEL 1

If  you  need  to  charge  for  charging  at  work:    It  can  be  as  simple  as  giving  your  employee  a  $5  a  week  raise  for  cleaning  the  air!
