HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY


1 Samuel 1:1-11(NKJV) 1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the mountains of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. 4And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters.


5But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. 6And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. 7So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. 8Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” 9So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord.


10And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

Godly - even if it does not meet today’s mold of the modern woman

Desire to give to God - we are caretakers for God; Do we strive to give Him his due?

Genesis 21:14-21(KJV) 14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. 15And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. 16And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.


17And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. 19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. 20And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

Loving

Physical encouragement - for healthy body

Challenge for mental growth - encouraging counting, etc.

Responsibility taught - chores, allowance, discipline, etc.

Development of special interest - artistic abilities cultured, fishing, sewing

Needed skills - Drivers Ed, sewing, cooking, mechanical things, mowing, etc.

College education - earning potential.



MANY ARE UNWILLING TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

Take time to present Christ to them in a positive light

Serving God WHOLE-HEARTEDLY in front of them

Point out the importance of serving God.

Point out the advantage of serving God.

Show forth the change made by serving God.

Encourage living a life of servitude (because of potential loss of income).


Relate the idea of soap and religion -- replacing excuses used for not exposing our children to God and His ways to soap.

My parents made me use soap as a kid, and I want my kids to make their own choice... when they are older.



There are so many different kinds of soap, I am not sure we can know which kind of soap is right



A lot of people claim to use soap, but they really don’t, and I don’t want my children exposed to all those soapy hypocrites.



As long as you have good intentions it does not really matter if you use soap.



I tried soap once, it did not make much difference. I think it is overrated.



I think soap is good, but there is no hurry, it is okay to wait until you are almost dead.



I do not have time to tell my children about soap.



Soap is okay... for some people, but it is really not my sort of thing.



I am too busy to use soap in my life.



There are many things more important than soap.



Soap is just not in my present plans.



My spouse is the soap user in this family.



Soap is okay for the kids, but I really don’t need it in my life.



I just use soap for special occasions.
