HOW TO BE BETTER ORGANISED
How do I get organised ?
Place a copy of your timetable in your diary and another copy on your desk at home.
Pack your school bag the night before . Remember to bring the correct workbooks and
reading material to school. Use your timetable so you can find out what books
you need to pack for the next day. Always keep a copy of your timetable in your diary. You must also keep a copy on your desk . Only pack the books and equipment for that day. You
do not need to pack all your exercise books for every subject. This will just add extra weight to your bag .
Make sure that you bring the correct equipment for practical based subjects .
Before entering the room ensure that you have taken out all your equipment and school diary.
PE Make sure you arrive to school in your full school uniform . Students who have PE during period 1 , 2 & 3 must change into their PE uniform before Homeroom commences. During recess, these students must change back into their full school uniform for the remainder of the day.
Students who have PE during periods 4 & 5 must change into their PE uniform during recess. At lunchtime, these students must change back into their full school uniform for the remainder of the day.
Students who have PE during periods 6 & 7 must change into their PE uniform during their lunch break. Only students who have PE during these last periods are permitted to go home in their PE uniform, as time does not allow them to change back into their full school uniforms before home time.
The School Diary Make sure you bring your diary to school every day.Take out your diary at the beginning of every lesson.Ensure you write all your homework and assessment requirements in your diary.Parents need to play an active role. Check your child's diary every night as this is a correspondence (communication ) link between the teacher and parent regarding any concerns.
Parents must sign the diary once a week. Look out for comments based on performance or behaviour .
Time management •Make homework a regular routine by checking your diary to see •homework requirements every afternoon.
•Allow 20 minutes every night for basic homework tasks.
•If for any reason your son or daughter says they have •No homework ; the 20-30 min time slot set aside for homework. •Should be used to review what was learnt that day or •some silent reading.
•Use homework time to revise important concepts studied in class. •This should become a regular routine. The work will be familiar and easily •remembered.
•Bed time reading is essential . Students should read every night as part of their• homework requirements .
Have a homework timetable and stick to it!
Assessments Plan starts now!
•You must get into the routine of looking at the school calendar and the• Term Planner to check for major events and assessments.
• The Term Planner will include information about your assessments, when theyare due and what tasks you are expected to complete for each subject area ?
• Make reference to this planner and write down all assessments in your diary.
• Planning in advanced will help you to be better organised. •The ideal approach is to sit down on Sunday night and preview upcoming weekly• events on a day by day basis. • Organise next week • What’s due?•What’s on?•How much work have I done on my project?
•Write your plan for the week in your diary.

Time ManagementIt is important to work out your afternoon schedule . Work out when you have other commitments that you need to engage in on a regular basis. Once you have worked out these commitments, plan a set homework time slot for the afternoon
For example: As soon as you get home make sure you have a little break.Have something to eat Unpack your school bag. Read your diary and start your work .
On days where you have other sporting commitments the routine might vary slightly. Make sure you make up for the time you miss.
•Don’t complete your assessment tasks the night before.
•Look at the Term Planner make sure you find out when your assignments are due.•If you have several assignments due during the term develop a timeline or an• assessment plan (schedule) which will indicate the weeks you intend on •working towards completing your assessment tasks.
•The timeline can also include dates and tasks like your exams or revision. •Make sure that your assessments are printed before the due date, don’t leave this• till the night before.
•Save work in several places incase your computer crashes or you loose your USB .
Time Management
When you combine effort and ability, you will do well and learn. Encouraging your child to do this will actually:Make them enjoy life more.Avoid being time poor , this will create more time for them.Reduce anxiety and give them a sense of control. Develop a productive study routine.Ensure that all work is handed in on time.Teach them to self manage and develop a sense of control .
Remember, being better organized will make an enormous difference,to achieving better educational outcomes.
