What is Blackboard?
• Your online classroom
• Where you will find all your course materials
including weekly readings, activities and
assessment tasks for your units
• Where you will interact with your e-Learning
Advisor (eLA) and students in your online
learning group via the Discussion Board and
Collaborate Sessions
When do I need to log into Blackboard?
• You don’t have to log into Blackboard at specific times during the week.
• Log into Blackboard regularly throughout each week to complete your weekly readings and activities, and to read and respond to posts in the Discussion Board
• Your eLA will run live Collaborate Sessions in the lead up to assessment tasks. These are held at scheduled times throughout the teaching period. If you miss a session you can watch a recording.
What to do in Blackboard Computer requirements
• PC or Mac computer (laptop or desktop)
• Broadband internet connection
• Operating system:
• Mac: OSX Version 10.7 or higher
• PC: Windows Vista or newer
• Speakers or headphones

Your Learning Group
� You should now have access your Online Learning Group
� If you selected your own Learning Group using the self sign-up
option in the Portal you will be able to access the Learning Group
you chose.
� If you didn’t choose your own group before the deadline
(midnight 28 June) you will have been automatically allocated to
a Learning Group for each of your units.

Reply
� The original post is at the top of the screen in a grey box
� Replies are listed beneath the original message in chronological order (in white boxes)
� Click on the bottom of the post to expand and view the entire post

� Click the “Reply” button at the bottom of the post you wish to respond to.
� The reply button will appear when you move your mouse to the bottom left hand corner of each post. The button will be either blue or grey.
How to reply to a post in the Discussion Board
� Type your reply into the text box and click the submit button on the right of the screen (either button is fine)
�Once you have submitted your reply it will appear attached to the post you replied to
Discussion Board Tip
� You can navigate back to Forums or the main Group
Discussion Board page from individual Threads by clicking on
the shortcut link at the top of the page
Collaborate Links
Your eLA will notify you when you have a
Collaborate session scheduled for your unit.
They provide important information to help you
prepare for your assessments.
Click on Collaborate Links to find:
� Links to live Collaborate sessions for your unit
� Links to Collaborate recordings posted 48
hours after the live session
