You will be using Adobe Digital Editions software to transfer eBooks from your computer to your eReader, and your eReader may not be recognised if it has not been setup first. Step 1: Download and install Adobe Digital Editions (cont …) . At the first pop up box, click the check box to accept the terms of the License Agreement then click Next. At the next pop up box (shown below left), click Next to install the components. At the next pop up box click Install. Once the download is complete, click Close. Adobe Digital Editions will automatically open on your computer. There will also be an icon on your desktop. Step 2: Authorise your computer with your Adobe ID 1. Click on the Help menu at the top of the screen. Click on Authorise Computer. At the pop up

box, click on Create Adobe ID. Note that your Adobe ID is your email address. Enter in your details and click on Create. Click Ok when complete. When complete, close your browser and return to Adobe Digital Editions. 2. Enter your Adobe ID and password you just created and click Authorize. Your computer is now ready to accept ePub files.

3. Connect your eReader to your computer using the supplied cable. It will appear in Adobe Digital Editions under the list of devices. Click on the name of your eReader, then click the icon next to your device, then click on Authorize Device...

4. A window will open displaying your Adobe ID. Click on Authorize Device to copy this authorization to your eReader. Once complete, click Ok to finish.

Your eReader has now been authorized with your Adobe ID, and you are now ready to down load an eBook to your computer, and then transfer it onto your eReader. 3

Step 3: Borrow and checkout an eBook using axis360

eBooks must be borrowed via the Lake Mac Libraries website before they can be downloaded to your computer and read on your eReader

1. Open your browser and go to the Lake Mac Libraries website at http://library.lakemac.com.au and click on the eCollections tab at the top of the page. Click on the eBooks link. Scroll down the page and click on axis360 eBook collection. 2. Search the Magic Wall by clicking on the category tabs on the left and top of the screen, and by

clicking the left and right arrow buttons at the bottom of the page. You can also search by typing a keyword search by clicking on the magnifying glass in the top right corner.

Clicking the button will change it to green and shows all the books that are “available now”. When this feature is off, all books will be shown, i.e both “available now” and “unavailable” books.

Hover your mouse over a book cover to display further information. This also shows if the book is available for loan.

You can also borrow by hovering your mouse over a book cover. Click on the ePub button. Click on Checkout.

4. At the next pop up box, login with your library card number and PIN and then click Login. Your PIN is usually set to the last four numbers of your phone number unless you chose something different upon sign up. If you are unsure of your PIN, contact your local library branch.

Your book will now be added to your account. A confirmation box will appear once the checkout is complete. Click Ok.

5. To download the book onto your computer, click on Download.

At the pop up box, you will be prompted to open or save an acsm file. This is a small file that Adobe Digital Editions uses to download your eBook. Click on Open. Note that if you are using an internet browser other than Internet Explorer, you may not receive an Open or Save prompt. You may then need to locate the file in your Downloads folder and open it manually.

6. If the book you want to borrow is unavailable or on loan, you may reserve a copy. Hover your mouse over the book cover. This title shows that the book is on loan with an estimated wait time of 28 days. Click on the ePub button, then click Add Hold. If you are not currently logged in, you will be prompted to login with your library card number and PIN. You will receive an email notification when the item is available for loan.

7. Ensure you have updated your email address to receive notifications when your reservation is available for loan. Click on My Account at the top right corner of the screen. Enter your email address and click Update, then Ok.

8. Your downloaded eBook will open automatically in Adobe Digital Editions. To turn the page, use the arrow keys on your keyboard, or click the right and left arrows at the bottom of the screen. 9. If you have finished reading and want to return to your book collection, click on Library at the top left of the screen. When you next open this eBook, it will automatically open at the last viewed page. You can also manually add bookmarks by clicking the Bookmark icon. 10. Adobe Digital Editions uses Bookshelves to display all the eBooks that have been purchased or downloaded. eBooks can be displayed by cover (as shown below) or list view, ordered by title, author, date added etc. Note that the book cover also displays how long you have remaining be fore the book expires. Change the way your books are displayed by clicking on the square icons at the top right of the screen or the Bookshelf links on the left. To open an eBook to read, double click on the book cover.

11. To copy an eBook to your eReader, ensure Adobe Digital Editions is still open and connect your eReader to your computer using the supplied cable. Right click on the cover of the book. Select Copy to Computer/Device and click on the name of your device.

Clicking on your device under the Device list will show all titles currently on your eReader. You can now disconnect your eReader and begin reading.

12. To return an book before the expiry date, in Adobe Digital Editions, right click on the book cover

and click on Return Borrowed Item. At the pop up box, click Return to confirm. This will remove the book from both your computer and your account, enabling you to borrow another eBook. This may take up to 30 minutes to take effect on the axis360 site.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How to borrow and download an

eBook using axis360 (PC)

1. How many eBooks can I borrow? You can borrow up to 10 eBooks from the axis360 collection at one time. 2. How long can I have the eBooks for? Loans are for a four week period. 3. Can I renew my eBook? axis360 eBooks cannot currently be renewed. If no one has reserved it, you may return an eBook and immediately borrow it again, however it may take up to 30 minutes for the return to take effect on the axis360 site. 4. Can I reserve an eBook? Yes. You will receive an email notification when the eBook is available for loan. Reservations must be checked out within 5 days. Ensure your account details are up to date. 5. I have finished reading my eBook, can I return the eBook before its due date? Yes. eBooks can be returned before the expiry date. In doing so, the eBook will be removed from both your computer and your account, enabling you to borrow another eBook. 6. Am I able to copy eBooks onto my eReader? Yes, providing your eReader supports Adobe DRM ePub files. USB cable to your computer, transfer your Adobe ID authorization to your eReader, then transfer books.
