  • 1. Font choice affects the readability of your yard signs considerably. If you choose a font thats hard-to-read, your sign wont be nearly as effective as it could be.A simple, easy-to-read font can sometimes be boring and can limit your branding options.Make sure you have your message fully-written, edited, and ready- to-go before looking at fonts.Know what youre going to say so you can pick a font that highlights that message.

2. Using different fonts makes your sign look custom and stylized. It emphasizes each part of the message as the readers eye is drawn to the different font choices.Find the right balance so your fonts are distinct but there arent so many that the sign looks cluttered and busy.Use 2 fonts for a small sign and no more than 3 for larger signs. This gives you enough options to be creative, but not so much that your sign looks inconsistent. 3. Fonts are an important part of your brand, so choose carefully. They should look professional, interesting, and easy-to-read.Its generally best to stay away from highly-stylized fonts, other than possibly to brand your business name.Unique fonts are certainly interesting, but they can border on being unprofessional.Make sure your font choices are appropriate for your industry. 4. Once youve picked your fonts, decide how you would like them to be treated. This means bold, italic, underline, shadowing, shaping, etc.Using treatment is a great way to emphasize important information and make your sign stand out.Not every word should have treatment, but your key information should be the focus of your sign. BOLD ITALIC UNDERLINE SHADOWING 5. The best rule for size is that for every 1 of text height you get up to 10 of easy readability. If your yard sign will be read from nearby, your font can be small. If youre placing a sign out near your parking lot, however, make your font at least, say, 3 tall.Dont cram a bunch of text onto a signalways edit to produce the best result. 6.
