Step 1: Open an internet browser and in the URL bar type in twitter.com


Step 2: After the Twitter homepage has loaded completely there will be two main options; a) Sign in or b) Sign up. Since we are new to Twitter we will want to Sign up. Enter in the appropriate information in the fields available under the Sign up portion of the page. These fields include; Full name, email, and password. After you have entered in all of this information, click on the Sign up for Twitter button.


Step 3: Before your Twitter account is complete you will need to create a twitter username. Twitter will pre-populate one based on your name, but for our purposes we will want to create a username based on the company name.**Please note that usernames can be no longer than 15 characters in length. After you have created a username, click on the Create my account button.


Step 4a: Welcome to the Twitter intro. Twitter’s intro is to help get you comfortable with how Twitter is laid out and will also give you recommended people to follow.


Step 4b: After you click on the first Next button, you will need to follow a minimum of 5 people in order to continue. Follow 5 people, brands, or news outlets that interest you. To follow someone click on the Follow button. You can follow more than 5 if you like, when you are ready to continue simply click on the Next button.


Step 5: You will now have to find and follow 5 more people that are known in certain categories or interests. Click on a category or interest and follow 5 more people, brands, or news outlets to continue. You can follow Twitter users from any category or interest, you do not have to pick just one. When you are ready to continue, click on the Next button.


Step 6: This portion of the sign up process is to help find your email contacts that are already using Twitter. If you would like to allow Twitter to access your email contacts on the different email providers listed you will have to allow access before Twitter can go ahead and gather the information. If you would not like to do this, click on the Skip button towards the bottom of the page to continue.


Step 7: Now it is time to upload a logo and to add a bio about the organization. Upload your company logo from your computer and add the company bio. The bio portion is limited to 160 characters, including spacing. After you have uploaded the logo and added a bio about the company click on the Done button. If you would like to skip this portion of the setup process click on the Skip button below the Bio.


Step 8: Welcome to your Twitter account and tweet stream. Before composing your first tweet, you will need to check your email to confirm your email address.


Confirm your email address by clicking on either the link or the button.


Step 9: The email will contain a link to click on to confirm your email address, click on the link. This will confirm your email address with Twitter. You do not need to save the email from Twitter after you have confirmed your email address.


Step 10: Compose your first tweet. In the upper left hand portion of your Twitter homepage you will see a box with text that reads Compose new Tweet... Click inside of it to write a tweet. When you are ready to submit your Tweet click on the Tweet button to do so and your tweet will be added to your Twitter stream.


First Tweet is in the Twitter stream. Yay!
